Vermont's Efforts to Reverse its Human Residents' Decades-long Degradation of Lake Champlain | It was interesting to see the reporting on the "green" issues debate between the two main candidates for governor recently, and to then drive the Interstate 89 corridor from Burlington to Montpelier right after the 3-to-8-inch rainstorm we received the last day of September.
Flood warnings had been posted for most of the state, and you could see water covering the fields all along the Winooski River valley floor. Most of what was covered was farm fields, most of them corn.Read Full Article

EPA Announces Increase in Gasoline's Ethanol Content
| On October 13, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved a 50 percent increase in the allowable ethanol content in gasoline for automobiles built after 2006. Gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol (E15) could damage recreational marine engines and other small gasoline-powered engines because they are designed, calibrated, and certified to run on not more than 10 volume percent ethanol. This increase also raises issues about emissions, performance, durability and warranty coverage. Any further EPA decision on the use of E15 has been delayed until testing on vehicles built before 2006 is complete.

Fishing Tips:
| Ever notice that a salty tube bait seems to work better after it has caught a few fish? The teeth of bass tend to rough up the bait, giving it a totally different look under water. It almost adds a life-like sheen to the bait. Instead of waiting to catch a few bass to get this look, try stretching, twisting and roughing up the tube with your fingernails before using it. This will add the same look to the bait and get you started catching that much sooner.
