Typical CSS555 Applications - The Need for Low Power and Programmability

Customers for our CSS555 family of IC Timers have provided feedback to how they are using this product. Not too surprising is that most of the users have a need for the low power capability of the device.
The CSS555 operates at a current of less the 5 micro-amps, making it an excellent Timer in battery powered products. For example, the CSS555 would operate for over 5 years in a battery powered product (2 AAA batteries, 100K-ohm load, 50% duty cycle).
In addition to low power, the CSS555 has programmable delay times. This is a very important feature for many customers. The CSS555 contains a 6 decade counter, which can be programmed to provide very long delay times without the need for a large timing capacitor. The CSS555C even contains an internal capacitor, eliminating the need for an external capacitor entirely. For example, the CSS55C can be programmed for a delay time of one hour without an external timing capacitor. Much longer delays can be achieved with a reasonably sized external capacitor - a month of delay is possible by adding a 0.1 micro-farad capacitor!
With all these advanced features, a complete 30 minute timer requires only two external resistors and the entire circuit requires less than 40 square millimeters of space on a PC card.
