CSS555C Timer Chip - 2009 Best Product Finalist!
Custom Silicon Solutions, Inc.'s CSS555C, a micro-power, programmable, 555 type timer chip was selected as a Finalist for Best 2009 Product in the Design News Golden Mousetrap Design Awards. The finalists in the Analog category included Custom Silicon Solutions, Texas Instruments and Analog Devices, Inc.
Frank Bohac, Head of Design at CSS and the designer of this innovative product states, "Using an advanced CMOS process with EEPROM, we have built a new 555 timer chip with many capabilities never before integrated into one design. It is ideally suited for battery-powered and long range timer applications." This produce is a significant improvement in the classic 555 timer IC's. First, at less than 5 micro-amps of active current, it has by far the lowest power of any 555 timer IC. Secondly, it features a programmable output counter so the delay can be programmed in decades from one to a million! It also includes an internal timing capacitor which can be trimmed to within 1%. The product specifications can be viewed in the CSS website.
Design News Editor-in-Chief Karen Field adds, "Design News congratulates the finalists of the 2009 Golden Mousetrap Awards for the great work they've done to develop new and innovative products for design engineers. These products showcase the highly imaginative ways that today's engineers are 'building a better mousetrap,' and we thank them for their contributions." Custom Silicon Solutions wins two new Military ASIC Development Programs

CSS has won two new Military development programs. The first new program is for the design and production of a Mixed-Signal ASIC for Thales-Raytheon Systems (TRS) in Fullerton, California. This IC will be used in the TRS AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder weapon locating radars. In these radars, the ASIC serves as a high-speed digital-to-analog converter (DAC). This custom circuit is part of an on-going TRS effort to continuously upgrade technology for the Firefinder radar set. CSS will provide a turn-key ASIC development, including: design, test program development, fabrication, qualification and production deliveries of this custom integrated circuit. The second ASIC development is also for a major Military company. This ASIC is targeted for a new system developmental program. It will provide a signal-conditioning function in that program's electronic system. CSS is designing this custom ASIC, developing a custom test program and providing for the fabrication of prototype devices. Both of these jobs are in the mainstream of CSS ASIC development - Instrumentation and Control, Mixed-Signal ASICs. For this project, we are able to provide the best possible combination of resources in a true turn-key development cycle. First, CSS engineers directly design the mixed-signal ASIC. Secondly, we choose a subcontractor with the best silicon foundry process for the project's requirements. Finally, we develop the wafer test program and test the wafers at CSS to insure efficient prototype evaluation. For Military ASICs, we select an experienced Military subcontractor for final packaging and production tests, including full Military Qualification testing. CSS would be pleased to quote an ASIC to meet your needs. We specialize in Mixed-Signal ASICs for Instrumentation and Control electronics in the Military, Industrial and Medical markets. We develop ASICs in both CMOS and BiCMOS processes. We also have many years of experience in the development and application of non-volatile memory (EEPROM), which can be used to optimize the performance of your mixed-signal ASIC.
