Spring is in the air!

Everybody celebrates the first signs of Spring; flowers beginning to bloom, mild weather and shedding some layers of clothing! In this issue we would like to celebrate something very important to us - our volunteers. April 15th-21st is National Volunteer Week in Canada so we would like to extend a special "thank you" to all of our wonderful AboutFace volunteers who dedicate their time to helping us. Whether it is volunteering as Camp counsellors, holding your own fundraisers for AboutFace, or working in the board room of the office sorting and stuffing papers - we appreciate you and everything you do for us!

Also in this issue, check out our Upcoming Events section for info on our new Family Camp taking place in May and our 5th Annual Leap of Faith Event, taking place in June. Also check out our Announcements and Resources sections for some other valuable information!

My husband, Brent, and I were so thrilled to finally meet her and welcome Ally into our world. I remember her little smile and how beautiful she was, but I also remember Brent coming over to me with tears welled up in his eyes when he said "Something is wrong with her ear." Ally's right ear was only partially formed. Immediately, I began blaming myself...read more>>

Feature Volunteer - John Balogh
by John Balogh

It was an 11-year-old boy from Vietnam who helped me to discover AboutFace. I was watching the CBC news when I saw Son Phenh, and his sponsors struggling to get him treatment for a significant vascular deformity. I got involved in Son's hunt for treatment, but more importantly for me, it was really the first time in...read more>>

Kathy Hay - Taking a "Leap of Faith"

by Kathy Hay (Intro by Emily Tye)

kathy hayOn June 23rd, one of AboutFace's wonderful members will be sitting back and watching people skydive, knowing that she has made a difference in a child's life. Kathy Hay is fundraising for the 5th Annual Leap of Faith Event, an event to raise awareness and funds for Camp Trailblazers - a camp for kids with facial differences, which takes place in 8 locations across Canada. It is a cause so close to Kathy's heart, she decided to raise as much as she can for it, in hopes that she will provide children today with an experience that she was never able to have growing up. Read Kathy's amazing story HERE.
