Relaxing this weekend? Start Now With a Mini Mental Vacation
Ever have one of those days that the very sound of the word "peaceful" is sooo attractive and at the same time extremely irritating, because the workload in front of you is seemingly never-ending? That is when a mini mental vacation is the most beneficial! I struggled with that very thing today, when only one quarter of my to-do list was accomplished at mid-afternoon, I cursed at my overloaded, sluggish computer, wiped my tears of frustration, and took a walk. I totally got out of the work environment.
I went to see my therapist... I have a great one, she's always available and she gets paid in hay. (See the photo of Sparkle)
Only a few minutes and I felt incredibly better! I made a promise to myself that no longer will I push through that zone of discomfort and frustration, but I will take a mental vacation at the very onset of any negative attitude that threatens to derail my day. In the end, the quality of work is better, attention to tasks is not tainted by stress or overwhelm and even if a few things get moved to the next day's "to-do" the day seems so much more pleasant and productive. I imagine we are all more pleasant to our loved ones and friends when we are able to take better care of our mental state throughout the workday, don't you think?
I realized the break from task allows the conscious mind to slow down and shut up a bit! Less chaos in the head? All good!
It may take some willpower to push away from the work at first, and if your therapist isn't next door, you may need to create an area of "zen" that you can visit in a few minutes close to your work space; but trust me, once you can experience the benefits of a mini break, it will become as necessary as having printer paper!
Have a wonderful Memorial Day. Fly your flag proudly for all of our fallen veterans.

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
