Two very important articles appeared today in Education Week Online:

Obama Targets Racial Disparities in Discipline
.  "Federal civil rights officials step up plans to investigate districts when their discipline policies result in disparities among different groups of students--even when discrimination was never the intent."  This has been a long standing issue in the African American community and an issue of high priority for the NAEAACLD.  Click here to read this article.

Poll:  Learning Disabilities Are Often Misunderstood.  "A survey suggests that, while the public is becoming more aware of learning disabilities, misconceptions about the term are still rife."  The very basis for the founding of the NAEAACLD was the lack of information available to families in the African American community.  If those who are aware of learning disabilities are confused, image how it must be for someone who has no information at all.  Click here to read this article.
