Neighborhood Reminders

As warm weather greets us, we have many more walkers on our sidewalks. With that, the HOA board is asking that everyone remember to pick up after yourself and your pets. There are doggie depot stations throughout the neighborhood for your convenience. Aslo please remember to pick up those soda cans, juice boxes, cigarette butts and other debris lying around. Also, PLEASE be sure to pick up the Free Newspapers that are delievered each week. These papers being left behind are not only an eyesore, but could also be considered littering, so please do your part to help keep our neighborhood beautiful!
Directors' Notes

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As the summer heat has finally left us and the crisp fall air has taken over the community.  The board has begun preparations for the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 and another great year.  As the year pulls to a close, we would like to reflect on all the great accomplishments that have happened within our community.  As many homeowners in the nation and even within our state fall on hard times, it was amazing to see how Arbor Creek neighbors help each other.  From lawn work, to coupon give away, to recently even a neighbor posting a job from his company.  It is amazing to see the way people come together when needed.

If you look around the neighborhood, you won't see as many changes as in the past, but the board was able to upgrade the pool surface to a quartz finish that will last many more years.  We also upgraded to a new Salt Water System which was a great and welcome change by many.  We also received new doggie depot stations throughout the neighborhood.  A BIG THANK YOU to the Village's for supplying and maintaining the new stations.

As we finish out the year, you will see a new name and face associated with the HOA Master Board.  I, Yolanda, have decided to step down from active President and also from my position on the board.  It was not an easy decision for me to make but I decided that after 3 years of volunteering it was time for me to spend that time focusing on my family.  It has been an honor to take part in such a wonderful community and help it become better each day.  Thank you to everyone for making my time on the board special.

The Master Board would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday season and a wonderful start to 2011.

Please be sure to check out our new website, www.arborcreekhoa.com, to help stay up to date on everything that is going on around the neighborhood!

Best Regards,

Halloween Safety

A Safe, Courteous Holly Springs Halloween:

Trick-or-treating should take place on the actual Halloween holiday, Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, and should be restricted to children under the age of 13. While teenagers (ages 13 to 19) are encouraged to refrain from participating in trick-or-treating, those who do participate should not wear masks. Trick-or-treating should be conducted during reasonable hours, preferably between early evening and 8:30 p.m.

All children taking part in trick-or-treating should be clothed in safe costumes, featuring materials that can be seen in the dark by motorists and masks that do not obstruct the children's vision. All children or groups of children taking part in trick-or-treating should be accompanied by a responsible older person who can protect the children from harm. Children should trick-or-treat in their own neighborhoods, visiting only familiar homes. Residents who choose not to participate in Halloween should indicate so to others by leaving their porch lights off; and, participants should respect the wishes of those who choose not to participate in Halloween by not visiting homes where porch lights are off.

Parents and/or guardians should inspect collected treats carefully before the treats are consumed by children. Suspicious activities or collected treats that show signs of tampering should be reported immediately to the Holly Springs Department of Public Safety.

"We would like children to trick-or-treat in well-lit, safe areas where they know the people they're trick-or-treating from," said Holly Springs Public Safety Chief Cecil Parker.

Parker said that Halloween holidays in Holly Springs traditionally have been safe. However, in addition to the officers typically scheduled for duty on Sunday evenings, Parker is sending four more police patrol vehicles out on the holiday for increased visibility in Town neighborhoods.

"Obviously, don't eat any candies that look suspicious, and only eat candy in original, unopened wrappings," Parker said. "Be safe, and have fun."

ARC Update
ARC UpdateWith Fall approaching and cool weather it is time to start preparing our lawns.  It is great to see our neighbor's pool and work together to rent equipment, thanks for Greg Ackerman for starting the aerating list on the Yahoo Board!!  Fall is a great time to do some of the outdoor work that was too hot to do over the summer, just remember to check the guidelines prior to starting any big projects to make sure they don't require approval beforehand.  Specifically tree removal has come up in the recent weeks so I am including the guideline on trees and what needs approval prior to being taken down.  Tree removal guidelines must be followed. No trees measuring six (6) inches or more in diameter at a point two (2) feet above the ground level may be removed without prior written approval.  The full list of guidelines can be found at www.casnc.com under our neighborhood section.

PERSONAL SAFETY TIPS

Being safe requires making wise personal choices that help prevent you from becoming a victim of crime.  Follow these tips to be safe while out of the house:

Be aware of your surroundings - Criminals don't like witnesses and will generally avoid people who look alert.  Trust your instincts, because they may save you from danger.

Avoid dangerous situations such as jogging or walking alone at night.  Whenever possible, walk or jog with friends, rather than alone.

Avoid exercising outside alone at night. If you must go out, stay away from trees or shrubbery that block your view.  Wear reflective gear.  Tell someone how far you are going, your route, and when you expect to return.

Stick to well-lighted, well-traveled streets.

Avoid shortcuts through wooded areas, parking lots or alleys.

Know where to go if you need help.

If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street - If they are still there, move quickly toward an open store, restaurant or a lighted house.

Carry a cell phone and don't be afraid to call or yell for help.

Be alert in the neighborhood.

Call police about anything you see that seems suspicious.  Report AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Have your car or house key in your hand before you reach the door. Also, it may be a good idea to have an extra set of car key close to your bed. If you hear a noise outside of your home or someone trying to enter your house, you can press the panic button on your car alarm.

HOME SAFETY TIPS

Always lock your doors and windows when you are not at home, during the day and at night.

Change your code on your garage door/remote control devise.

Don't leave notes on the door when going out.

When leaving for an extended period of time {days or weeks}, you should:

     1. Notify the police and a neighbor and leave emergency contact information, who is allowed to be at the house and what vehicles will be there.

     2. Cancel deliveries such as newspapers, UPS, FEDEX, and mail.

     3. Have someone mow the lawn, take out the garbage and remove the garbage cans and shovel the walkway if needed.

     4. Use a timer to turn on and off the lights and leave curtains open.

     5. Notify police and neighbors upon your return.

Never hide your keys under the door mat or mailbox or in conspicuous places

If you find your door or a window open and suspect someone inside, "DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE". Leave immediately and call 911. Wait in a safe place and listen to the 911 dispatcher.

GENERAL SAFETY TIPS

Never let stranger{s} into your house.

If someone is soliciting, ask to see their permit and their credentials along with a photo I.D.

If the person{s} are representing workers from utility companies, or delivery services, don't rely solely on a uniform or his claims, again ask for photo I.D. and credentials.

Park your vehicle in a well lighted area.

Always lock your vehicle doors and remove valuable items{cameras, money, laptop computers, GPS units, CD's and purses}

Be alert of suspicious activity, vehicles and persons in the area.

To report an incident or emergency CALL "911". Do not call the station direct. The officer may not be at the station. The most effective way to get help quickly is to use the "911" system.

Report an incident to "911" ASAP, do not wait to call. Make every effort to be a first party caller. Important information can be lost if reported by a third party.
