HAPPY INDEPENDENCE WEEK! |
As we approach Independence Day, we will be awed by the fireworks which are a spectacular symbol of our freedom.
|
PASSIONATE PATRIOTS |
We know some of the sacrifices of our founders and of those who endured the merciless cold and diseases in that winter in Valley Forge. There is another group of soldiers not so widely known - those who were captured by the British and imprisoned in New York. Their treatment was inhumane. They were given a hard biscuit and a cup of smelly soup as a ration to last 3 days. A full 70 % of our men died under this inhumane ration system. How did the remaining 30 % endure and survive? Historians tell us that they survived due to their great passion for freedom, not just for themselves, but for their families and further generations.
|
IS THIS A LESSON FOR US NOW? |
It is easy to bemoan the "smaller rations" that some of us are experiencing in our lives. And of course it is easy to find others who will commiserate with us. Instead of being part of a Boston Tea Party, are we hosting a Pity Party? Of course it is human to do so, but is it helpful?
Instead of focusing on our "smaller rations", can we use this time to appreciate our basic freedoms. Then we can ignite our own fireworks of passion for the people in our lives, in our businesses and in the organizations and causes we support?

EXERCISE |
During the next week, I invite you to pick one individual within your family, circle of friends or business, or pick an organization or cause you support. Focus on your passion toward this person or cause and do something to demonstrate that passion.
I welcome hearing from you. I will listen. |
