RESEARCH ON HAPPINESS |
Researchers sought out the 100 most successful and contented people they could find and then began extensive interviews with them. The data was carefully fed into a computer with the hopes of discovering what these 100 people had in common. The early results of the research were discouraging because there did not seem to be anything in common. Neither their educational background nor the economic status of their parents were factors. The closest thing to a common denominator was that 70 of the people came from small towns under 15,000. The researchers continued to search for the common denominator of all 100 people.

GOODFINDER |
The scientists finally found the one common denominator and they invented the slogan "goodfinder". Such a person is one who finds good in himself/herself, finds good in others, and finds good in all situations of life. Today we will focus on finding the good in ourselves.

GATHERING THE EVIDENCE |
We can find the evidence we want to confirm the negatives, and the imperfections in ourselves. Or, we can choose to recognize the good in ourselves and to acknowledge the many gifts and talents we have received. The source of our talents and our gifts may be called God, the universe, a higher power, or whatever your belief system is.

EXERCISE |
I invite you to do this exercise this week:
1. Find one thing that is good in yourself and write it down in your journal at the end of each day.
2. Notice how you were able to switch negative thoughts about yourself to positive thoughts.
3. Was there something more you could have done differently to make a day happier?
I welcome hearing from you and learning with you. |
