DEFINITION OF AN "INNY" (INTROVERT)

While people commonly tag someone with the label of introvert, there is a more specific definition used by psychologists such as Carl Jung who described an introvert as a person who is energized by being alone and by dealing with ideas and reactions in his/her head. An introvert is someone who reflects, thinks, and plans before embarking on a plan.

CAN INTROVERTS RISE UP TO BE STRONG LEADERS?

Contrary to myths about leadership, 40% of top executives describe themselves as "innies".

WHY ARE INNIES STRONG LEADERS?

  1.  CALM. They are calm amidst controversy and confusion. They don't have a need to dominate. Their authority by itself makes them visible.
  2. ONE INSIGHTFUL COMMENT.  Have you noticed when there's a lot of talking or yelling in a meeting that the calm leader gets the attention with just one insightful comment or question?
  3. CONFIDENT.  They have learned to exude confidence (but that does not usually come naturally or easily).
  4. SOLITUDE. The "inny" recharges by being alone and reflecting during a crisis or a high pressure situation.
  5. DISCIPLINED.  "Innies" are disciplined and have a strong work ethic.
  6. COACHABLE.  "Innies" understand there are situations when they need to stretch out of their introvert comfort zone and they value good coaching to help them devise strategies to succeed.

EXERCISE

I invite you to consider the following this week:

  1. Do you think you are an "inny"? If so, are you using your skills or are you holding yourself back in leading your company or your organization?  Is it because you think leaders are always extroverts or because you don't have a strategy for asserting yourself and claiming your leadership position?
  2. Are there "innies" in your company or your organization who deserve to be acknowledged and considered for leadership positions? If so, what action will you take this week?

A SPECIAL OFFER

I invite you to consider the following this week:

  1. While "innies" can make great leaders, they need to learn special techniques for success. A great "inny" leader often needs encouragement and coaching at the beginning.
  2. In coaching "innies", I have discovered a coaching tool assessment that determines whether you are an "inny". This will give you confidence and encouragement to use YOUR particular style effectively to become a leader.
  3. For the first 10 persons who respond, I will offer this national assessment for just $25, which is a substantial discount from the customary cost. The assessment is done online and takes just 15 minutes. This special offer expires on February 17th and then returns to its normal fee.
  4. I encourage you to take advantage of this offer and to invest $25 in yourself and/or someone in your company.
