THE METAPHOR OF A SEED |
Completing our goals usually comes in stages or steps. Tilling the ground, planting the seeds, watering, and harvesting the crops is a metaphor for the stages to completion of a goal.
|
"READY, AIM, FIRE". INSTEAD WHY DON'T YOU TRY "READY--FIRE"
|
We often get stalled in completing our goals because we want to have every step planned so that we don't make "mistakes". Undue worry or obsessing over each detail stalls the process and even sabotages the goal. Often it's our compulsion for perfectionism that causes us to keep aiming, re-aiming, and re-aiming, instead of just firing. So let's try something new. Let's focus on what we do know and get help for what we don't know. Then we can create our own momentum. Sometimes great results can only happen if we practice "READY-FIRE".

INSPIRING STORY
|
I invite you to click here for the inspiring story that appeared in our Kansas City Star on Wednesday about an entrepreneur, a Kansas City man who has founded a unique not for profit program for inner city boys called "BoysGrow". I know this entrepreneur well and have watched with admiration as he has developed BoysGrow into a very successful program. The story of BoysGrow has valuable lessons that we ourselves can put to use this very week as we work to complete our goals.
|
EXERCISE |
This week I invite you to read the story about BoysGrow and consider these points and how they may apply to you:
1. What knowledge did the entrepreneur have in fundraising, business, farming, marketing, and not for profit organizations? None
- Did that stop him? [What is stopping you from completing your goals?]
2. What resources did he use to acquire the knowledge? [What resources can you use right now in your career or in your life? Are you reading? Are you researching? Are you attending workshops? Are you getting mentoring or coaching or other help?
3. The entrepreneur never lost sight of his goal to help young boys. [Are you keeping your eyes on your goal of helping others in your business or personal life?]
4. What role did self-confidence play with this entrepreneur? [Can you use a boost in your self -confidence? Where and when will you go to get that support?]
5. You may also want to look at the BoysGrow website for further information and inspiration. http://www.boysgrow.com/

"I'm learning as I go, I never ran a farm, never sold produce, never ran a salsa distribution company. Life is complicated, and the business world is hard. But it's not overwhelming. That's what I want the boys to know." - John Gordon, Jr.
