MULTI-TASKING IS SCREWING UP

EVERYTHING SIMULTANEOUSLY

FOCUS

We have been discussing music in prior series and will return to that subject later.  We know Baroque music helps us focus, so let's look at FOCUS.

Multi-tasking is not necessarily good or bad.  However, some people develop a multi-tasking obsession or at least a predisposition to multi-tasking.  This becomes a habit which is difficult to break when they really need to focus.

EXAMPLES OF MULTI-TASKING

  • Talking on the phone while driving
  • Talking on phone while eating
  • Reading a paper or doing a work report while watching TV and maybe even talking to someone
  • Talking to a customer or someone else on the phone while also working on your computer
  • Talking on the phone while walking
  • Reading reports or papers while exercising
  • Talking on the phone while watching children or grandchildren play
  • Texting during a meeting or presentation

EXERCISE

I invite you in the next week to look at one area in your life where you are multi-tasking and instead practice doing it as a single task.  You will need to change a habit in order to accomplish this.  This can become a practice and can be the first step to "Mastery".   Click here for our series on Mastery issues 116, 117, 119, 120 & 121.

Here would be some examples:

·      Drive without talking on the phone

·      Read without having a TV on

·      Enjoy one meal without reading or watching TV

·      Stay focused on what you are doing when you are exercising, such as weights, running, swimming, yoga, etc.
