BAROQUE MUSIC EXPLAINED |
The word Baroque comes from the Italian "Barocco" which means exuberant. This style of music, developed between1700-1750, is melodiously constructed to reflect the perfect order of the universe. |
RESURGENCE AND THE REASONS |
There is a tremendous resurgence of this music for two reasons:
- Relaxing. Many people are searching for ways to reduce stress. This music, at approximately one beat per second (BPS) reduces our blood pressure by relaxing us. Yet, we remain alert.
- Focus & Learning. Scientific studies show that the music creates alpha waves in our brain and integrates the right and left sides of the brain, which increases our focus and learning abilities.
|
EXERCISE |
This week I invite you to experience one or more of the following:
- During a stressful time, listen to any of the Baroque musicians, such as Vivaldi, Bach, Scarlatti, and Mozart.
- In this sweltering heat in the Midwest, you may listen even more carefully to Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and particularly to his musical version of summer.
I look forward to hearing your results and insights from this exercise. |

"Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water bath is to the body."
