Great Expectations

*This is the first in a series on expectations.*

Dear ,

John ImageWelcome to Issue 125.  If you did not receive a previous issue, you may use the archive link below to view it now.  The mission of "Marvelous Mondays" is to offer an inspirational thought, a practical exercise, some humor, or a simple tip to jump-start your week and to enhance your life, business, outlook or relationships.

Please feel free to forward "Marvelous Mondays" to others who will enjoy it.

THE STORY
Charles Dickens' Great Expectations is considered one of the world's greatest works of literature.  Pip, the main character, comes into an unexpected and huge fortune and becomes obsessed with acquiring more and more.  Pip turns away from his true friends and nearly destroys himself.  If Pip had the benefit of a life coach (unfortunately I was not around in 1860) I would have posed to him the same 7 questions that are the exercise for this week.

EXERCISE
I invite and challenge you to examine your expectations of yourself with the following:

1.  Explore your expectations.  Are they yours or someone else's?  Are they from someone from the past?

2.  Does your life get complicated and out of balance trying to meet other's expectations of you?

3.  Do your current expectations match your life experiences?

4.  Are your current expectations realistic?

5.  What do you expect of yourself on a daily basis?

6.  Do you have time to take care of yourself while meeting the expectations of others?

7.  Do you need clarification or do you feel out of balance?  If so, do you want to invest in yourself by having a conversation with an experienced business and life coach?
