THE WAKE UP CALL
|
In issue 94, we discussed some health risks associated with sleep deprivation. Click here to view Issue 94. In this issue, we turn to sleep interruption and look at possible causes.
- Waking up between 11 PM and 1 AM for gall bladder relief: This could be due to a lot of liquids before going to bed or it may mean that salt and fat have not been metabolized or digested properly.
- Waking up between 1 AM and 3 AM: Often this means that refined sugars and alcohol have aggravated the liver.
- Waking up between 3 AM and 5 AM: This is often connected with some lung issue.
- Waking up anytime during the night: Prescription medications (especially those used to treat high blood pressure) can disturb sleep.

EXERCISE
|
If you are waking up during the night, I invite you to start charting when you wake up and then determine whether any of the causes listed above apply to you.

"O sleep, O gentle sleep,
Nature's soft nurse, how have I frightened thee,
That thou no more wilt weigh my eyelids down
And steep my senses in forgetfulness?"
-Shakespeare, King Henry IV, Part II, Act III, Scene I
