PASCAL ON MEDITATION
This is the fourth in a series on meditation.  For new readers, I recommend you click here for Issues 90 - 92.  I acknowledge Wayne Dyer's thoughts on meditation from his book "Wisdom of the Ages".

Blaise pascal ImageBlaise Pascal was a French philosopher, a mathematician, and an expert in geometry.  He invented the hydraulic press, the digital calculator, and the syringe over 400 years ago.  Don't you think as a scientist he experienced at least as many struggles, frustrations, disappointments, and worries as we do?  How could Pascal have accomplished so much before passing away at the age of 39?  How could Pascal have accomplished all of this and found the time for meditation?  Well, he made the time!  Was it easy for him to sit in silence?  No.  In fact, he said, "The eternal silence of these infinite spaces terrifies me."

Dr. Dyer speaks of the mind as a POND.  The surface (which is just a fraction of the pond) has ripples and disturbances.  Yet below this surface lies the real depth, the stillness where you can discern the "true essence" of the POND.

EXERCISE
In the next week, you will encounter some worry or some frustration.  I invite you to think of Pascal and the POND.  I invite you to break away from the project or the worries, physically move to another space and just sit in silence for 5 to 10 minutes.  Watch the results!  Again, do not judge yourself.
