FROM BREAKDOWN TO WIN
Notice how I chose the word "breakdown" and not "failure". Projects that do not meet their goals are usually caused by a "breakdown" in communication. Here are 5 coaching techniques for the team leader to make this a "win" at the team meeting.

1.  ANALYZE : The Team analyzes the facts of what went wrong (no blaming or calling out anyone in particular by name)

2. LEARN: Team discusses how they've learned

3. NEW PLAN:  Discuss and write down specific steps to be done differently the next time

4. RE-AFFIRMATION:  The leader will re-affirm her/his confidence in the team and in the individuals.

5. ACKNOWLEDGE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The leader will point out individual accomplishments
(if any) in the project that went awry and will point out the valuable input of the individuals at this meeting.

EXERCISE
This 5 point coaching technique works in a business meeting, a family meeting, and organizational meetings. In the next week or so, I invite you to use this 5 point plan. I will look forward to hearing about your success.
