LESSONS FROM MARCH MADNESS AND PHIL JACKSON
|
Coach Phil Jackson practices the discipline of living in the now. He does not worry about whether his team will win or loose. Instead, he coaches his players to focus all their attention on what is happening at that precise moment.

EXERCISE
|
When you watch the NCAA championship tonight, observe which players and which coach focus on the NOW. In fact, some coaches like Phil Jackson, practice that zen discipline so well that you would not know whether they are winning or losing even during the time out in a game that will be decided in the next two seconds.
This week, you will have at least one situation, when you, too, will practice this zen discipline. I invite you to be aware of this opportunity, to then practice the zen, and then share your results with me or someone else.

"True joy comes from being fully present in each and every moment, not just when things are going your way. Of course, it is no accident that things are more likely to go your way when you stop worrying about whether you are going to win or lose and focus your full attention on what is happening right this moment."
- Coach Phil Jackson Author of "Sacred Hoops" and winning Chicago Bulls coach
