HOLIDAY EXPERIENCES
I've been conducting an informal poll and invite you to join.

There is a lot going on during the holidays; 1. preparing a trip, 2. preparing for visitors, 3. gift selections, 4. religious traditions, 5. family traditions, 6. trips to the food stores, 7. meal preparations.  On top of that, there is the usual business of running a business and perhaps running a household.

Then, let's throw in a snow blizzard.

Small wonder, then, that people report a high degree of stress during the holidays.  So far, here is what my poll shows; 1. some people wrote down the important things they wanted to do and enjoy during the holidays.  2.  Some people set realizable (yet flexible) goals and wrote them down with a timeline and shared those with someone. 3. Some people delegated part of their tasks. 4. Some people had no written plan and did not set any goals.

So far, the results show that those who fit in the first three categories had a more enjoyable and low stress holiday.

EXERCISE
This week, I invite you to reflect on your holiday experience.  Please consider these questions during your reflection.  Perhaps discuss them with someone.
  • Did you have a plan this holiday season?
  • Was it a good road map?
  • Did you share your plan with someone so they could help you accomplish your goals?
  • Describe your predominant emotions during your holiday experience.
  • Do you see any similarities between your holiday experience and your professional experience?

As we begin the new year, we will be exploring goals and it may be helpful to see any similarities as discussed above.
