LEADERSHIP INSPIRATION
|
In issue 42, we talked about Cesar's Way and the essential
role of being "calm" as a leader. My question this week is how does one remain calm in the midst of a
"crisis", argument, financial problem, or employment problem? Or when other circumstances seem
chaotic.
Lao-Tzu in the 26th
verse of the Te-Ching (written 2500 years ago) suggests that we can carry serenity with us and choose to be centered and
choose not to let circumstances or others control our feelings or cause us
panic or anger or unrest. By doing
so, we do not let others or circumstances "control us."
One way to stay centered during such a
"crisis" is to stop thinking and start breathing and empty out any
judgments.
Does this sound like a way to achieve a freedom that perhaps
we have not known - namely not to let others or circumstances control our
feelings.

EXERCISE
|
This week, I invite you to
make a commitment to put this way of being into practice so that you are
ready the next time such a situation comes up. Perhaps posting the following affirmation on your door or mirror might be approriate.
"I have the ability to stay poised and
centered regardless of what goes before me". - Wayne Dyer from "Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life"
I'd be delighted to hear how this practice works for you.

"The still is the
master of unrest.
Realizing this, the
successful person is
poised and centered
in the midst of all activities;
Although surrounded
by opulence
He is not swayed
Why should the lord
of the country
Flit about like a
fool?
If you let yourself
be blown to and fro,
You lose touch with
your root.
To be restless is to
lose one's self-mastery."
- 26th Verse written by Lao-Tzu
