LEADERSHIP INSPIRATION
|
Before Thanksgiving, we looked at verse 17 of the Tao Te Ching (the Great Way) and I invited you to contemplate on enlightened leadership. A common frustration among leaders and managers is that their support team relies too much on management and does not take personal responsibility. Even in other situations, the terms parent or teach can be substituted for the word manager.
Here are three practical strategies to develop a sense of responsibility as recommended by Dr. Wayne Dyer in his book, "Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life."
(1) Inspire them by your example. For example, encourage others to be responsible and do the right thing by your own example.
(2) Create sufficient space for others to achieve their greatness. For example, offer a suggestion and then make yourself invisible by leaving the room. This gives the
support team or kids an opportunity to act responsibly without feeling
any need to impress you.
(3) You may convey your own position on a matter and also convey that you trust them to make the right decision. For example, a smile or gesture conveys your trust in their ability.

EXERCISE
|
This week, I invite you to select a situation with your family or someone you work with or supervise. Become an active observer. Nod, smile, or gesture without saying anything when you previously would have corrected or added something. Notice how this impacts those people. Please feel free to share your experience with me.

" Truly inspiring leaders get results by their own example: They encourage others to be responsible and do the right thing, but no by proclaiming and bragging about their unimpeachable management." - Wayne W. Dyer Author of "Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life"
