Story Time Books

Week 1: Ponds and Ducks
Little Green Frogs by Frances Barry
Explore the wonders of things that grow! These Fold Out and Find Out books have pages that open and transform before your eyes. Frog eggs are floating in the pond, but how will they grow? Each shaped page shows a different stage: eggs hatching into tadpoles, the appearance of back and front legs in froglets, and finally, disappearing tails. Now the frogs are ready to hop up for air, onto the lily pads formed by the opened book.

There's flipping and flopping, splishing and splashing, wiggling and waggling down by the cool of the pool. Frog, Duck, Horse, Pig, and the rest of the gang dance and sing their way through this wacky, watery wonderful story told with a catchy rhyming text and bold, vibrant illustrations. The fun is positively infectious, and you just may find yourself dancing and singing along with Frog and his frolicking friends.

Week 2: Oceans
When a giant squid takes inventory of all of the creatures in the ocean, he realizes that he's way bigger than most of them! Of course, there are bigger things lurking around . . .

Kids can meet all their favorite ocean animals up close in this GIANT fold-out flap book which combines simple learning concepts with bold, captivating illustrations. Five different sea creatures-a jellyfish, clownfish, octopus, sea turtle, and dolphin-are described in rhyming, riddle-fashion.

Song Lyrics & Finger Plays

Welcome to Story Time Song:
Open and shut them, open and shut them
Give a great big splash, splash, splash
Open and shut them, open and shut them
Splash them in your lap, lap, lap

Swim them, swim them, slowly swim them
     Right up to your chin
     Open wide your little mouth
but don't let the water in.

Goodbye Song
(Sung to the song "Have you ever seen a lassie"):
The more we get together, together, together
The more we get together the happier we'll be.
'Cuz your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends.
The more we get together the happier we'll be.

Week 1 Ponds and ducks:
Five Little Ducks Went Out to Play:
Five little ducks went out to play
Over the hills and far away.
          Mama duck said,
          "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
And only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks went out to play
Over the hills and far away.
          Mama duck said,
          "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
And only three little ducks came back.

Three little ducks went out to play
Over the hills and far away.
          Mama duck said,
          "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
And only two little ducks came back.

Two little ducks went out to play
Over the hills and far away.
          Mama duck said,
          "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
And only one little duck came back.

One little duck went out to play
Over the hills and far away.
          Mama duck said,
          "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
And no little ducks came running back

Sad mother duck went out one day
Over the hills and far away.
          Mother duck said,
          "Quack, quack, quack, quack
           Quack, quack, quack, quack
           Quack, quack, quack, QUACK!"
And all five little ducks came back.

     The Ducks on the Bus

The ducks on the bus went quack, quack, quack.
Quack, quack, quack. Quack, quack, quack.
The ducks on the bus went quack, quack, quack
        All through the town.

(Repeat using flap, waddle and splash.)

Week 2 Oceans:

     Waves in the Sea
(Sung to the tune "Wheels on the Bus")
The waves in the sea go up and down [raise and lower your arms]
Up and down, up and down.
The waves in the sea go up and down all day long

The shark in the sea goes snap, snap, snap...[clap your hands]

The fish in the sea go swish, swish, swish...[swish back and forth]

The boats in the sea go toot, toot, toot...[make blowing horn motion]

     Nippy Snippy
         Eeny, meeny, miney, mo
Here comes a crab to pinch your toe!
Shout out loud and he'll let go --
         Eeny, meeny, miney, mo

         Nippy, snippy, snappy, snip
Be careful when you take a dip,
Or Crab will catch you in his grip!
         Nippy, snippy, snappy, snip
