One of the greatest gifts my brother and I received from my mother was her love of literature and  language. With their boundless energy, libraries open the door to these worlds and so many others.         I urge young and old alike to embrace all that libraries have to offer.

 READ THIS!

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead

STAFF PICK
Youth Services Coordinator Ellen Clancy (Mrs. C) loved this book for kids 10 & up.

As her mother prepares to be a contestant on the 1980s television game show, "The $20,000 Pyramid," a twelve-year-old New York City girl tries to make sense of a series of mysterious notes received from an anonymous source that seems to defy the laws of time and space.

During the Great Depression 48 of the 50 states built new libraries.

During the days of the Great Depression people turned to libraries for help with everyday life issues. In these tough economic times, more than 200 people a day come to our library to write resumes, attend job workshops, set up email accounts, attend kid and adult programs, take computer classes or come to hear great information on health care, finance, gardening and so much more.  In addition, more people than ever are watching their budget by borrowing everything from DVD's & CD's, to the latest bestseller.

Like all of us at home, the library is also affected by rising costs. That is why we are putting a budget proposition on the ballot on Election Day November 3rd. The proposition asks for an increase of $80,293 and will cost taxpayers an average of $22.75 more per household a year. This increase will simply cover our operating expenses and allow us to maintain the current level of service, hours and staff.  If passed, it will be the first budget increase in 5 years.

Please vote on November 3rd.

Remember - Flip your ballot over - our proposition is on the back.
