STAFF PICK

Staff member Denise Sharpe
recommends this exciting thriller by Dennis Lehane, the "New York Times" bestselling author of "Mystic River." Set in 1954 at Ashcliffe Hospital--a federal institution for the criminally insane-- U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his partner Chuck Aule find themselves surrounded by the darkest evil, darker than anyone can ever imagine.

       Remembering Mrs. K
pauline photoWalk with Patterson Library's Team Pauline

Join us on Sunday, October 4th for a 3-mile walk in memory of Pauline Kaplan, our colleague and friend who lost her courageous battle to Breast Cancer in March 2009. Known to kids & parents as "Mrs. K", Pauline created a wonderful children's program as our Youth Services Coordinator. To join the "Patterson Library's Team Pauline" at the 15th Annual Support-A-Walk for Breast & Ovarian Cancer call 845-878-6121 x 10 or click Team Pauline to register, make a donation or for more information. A reception will follow the walk in our meeting room with special guest Cathy Bueti, Breast Cancer survivor and author of the newly re-released "Breastless in the City."  Hope to see you there!

VEGGIES ANYONE?

The Story Time Garden
flourished with the mix of hot sunny days and summer rain producing a wonderful crop of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, herbs and green beans. Kids and their families enjoyed garden activities and stories all summer long with Mrs.Clancy. They learned about the basics of gardening while discovering how tasty veggies can be. With sunflowers, figs and corn growing taller by the day, the Story Time Garden will continue with Fall activities; and for our adult gardeners, look for a series of gardening programs beginning in early spring. Stay tuned!

ROSIE COMES TO PATTERSON!
Adriana Rogers delighted audiences with her one woman show Rosie, based on Rosie the Riveter, the iconic symbol for women who went to work during WWII, filling the positions left vacant by the men who were drafted; but the biggest surprise of the night was a special visit by Angelina Vigliotti Lena, a "real life" Rosie who riveted sheetmetal in Tarrytown during the war.

Library News

Although we will be sharing our building with the Patterson Town Court until August 2010, we are continuing to work on our plans for the expansion of our library. Our survey shows you want quiet study areas, more computers, additional space for programs and expanded collections for new releases & music CDs so they are all at the top of our list!
