Greetings!

The box this week brings another round of sweet Santa Rosa plums. One of our very favorite plums of the season, sunny summer days go best with this fruit's wake-up call for your taste buds. Based on what was coming in from the orchard, there will also be one of two varieties of peaches: the Red Top or Rich Lady. The Red Top lives up to its name with a skin almost fully blushed red and a fine firm texture that makes it an excellent snack to go along with a tiptoe through the tulips. The Rich Lady, cultivated in California in 1989, shares a similar texture and brings with it the beautiful light scent
of the orchard.

PeachDid you know CSAs have been around since the 1960s in Europe? Around the same time, mothers in Japan sharing concerns about imported foods began the country's first CSA projects, but the concept didn't take root in the US until the early 1980s. Since then over 12,000 have sprung up across the nation, playing an important role in bringing local produce to local residents. After 30 years, we're still realizing just how important it is in fostering and supporting our communities.

We spend a lot of our time on the health of our individual sites.
We're always looking for long-term committed members to add on to
existing sites, and we want to make sure our members are getting the most out of our CSA. And since Frog Hollow harvests at the peak of ripeness, remember that getting the most out of your box means picking it up as soon as possible. We use twitter to confirm when sites are available for pickup, but you don't have to be a twitter member to get those updates--visit the page at twitter.com/froghollowcsa any time for sneak peeks into the box, estimated pickup times and pickup time confirmation. We're happy to say that following our success last week, we will again be sending the truck out at its new scheduled time, so as long as no unforeseeable issues crop up, all boxes should be ready for pickup by 3pm as intended.

Cheers,

Kimi Owens

Recipe of the Week

Spiced Peach Buckle recipe by local cook and Frog Hollow Fan, Heather Hardcastle. This recipe was showcased on her blog and made with our own FH peaches. Check out the link for other easy recipes and dinner ideas from Heather.

http://dinnertonightblog.blogspot.com/

Spiced Peach Buckle:
Yields 8 servings

-6 TB unsalted butter, melted
-1 cup flour
-1/2 cup sugar
-1/4 tsp sea salt
-1 1/2 tsp baking powder
-3/4 cup milk ( I used 2%)
-1 tsp vanilla
-1/4 tsp minced fresh ginger
-1/4 tsp ground cardamom
-4 large peaches, sliced 1/2" thick

1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Pour the melted butter into the
bottom of a 2qt oval baking dish. Set aside.

2) In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and spices. Add the milk and vanilla and whisk to combine. You should have something that looks like cake batter. Pour this over the butter in the bottom of the dish and spread out gently.

3) Nestle the peach slices all over the surface of the batter. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the cake is set in the middle and the edges are golden brown. Serve with ice cream, lightly sweetened whipped cream, or creme fraiche.
