Your Support Helped Save an Organic Dairy!
The situation was dire when ranchers Mike and Monique Moretti approached MALT this spring. Critical pastureland they had leased for 16 years, essentially the backyard to their ranch, was in contract with a non-agricultural buyer. Losing this farmland would place their organic dairy in jeopardy. "I grew sick to my stomach with each car that drove through our dairy on the easement road to view our pastureland," recalled Mike. "I knew each was a potential buyer that could end our livelihoods and change the land forever." Read how your support saved this organic dairy here.

Environmental Forum of Marin Training
Next "Master Class" begins August 28
Each year Environmental Forum of Marin offers a series of classes and field trips that focus on the natural world, human impact on the environment, advocacy training, and completion of a class project. (In fact, it was a collaborative class project between environmentalist Phyllis Faber and dairy rancher Ellen Straus that provided the inspiration for the founding of MALT in 1980.) The Environmental Forum's next training starts August 28, and includes a full-day field trip highlighting West Marin agriculture with Phyllis.
