The Young Professionals would like to invite *all CSIFT members* to their March event in Chicago.  Join us for a volunteer opportunity with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD).

 

When:      Wednesday, March 30 6:00-9:00 PM

Where:     Greater Chicago Food Depository

Location:  4100 W. Ann Lurie Place, Chicago, IL 60632

There will be a 5-10 minute orientation at 6:00 PM about GCFD and warehouse safety.  Our task is mainly to organize their foodstuffs, dispose of expired products, and help with the overall task of feeding those less fortunate than us.

 

No cost but please register so we know who is coming to help give back to the community!

Bylaws Ratification

 

As you are aware, the ballot this year also included a bylaws ratification vote to change Article IV, Section 3 of the bylaws.  I am pleased to report that 83% of the voting members voted in favor of ratification so the bylaws will be revised to reflect the approved change.

Fats and oils have been the whipping boy for the food industry having been blamed for coronary heart disease and a host of other medical conditions including obesity. Although the industry has responded well towards bringing healthy oils to the marketplace, health and nutrition will continue to be a driver for the future. Consumers have grown to expect fats and oils with low saturated and trans acids, as well as being high in essential fatty acids.  Dr. List will address the issues faced by oilseed industry and how the technological developments especially those "green" technologies have transformed the industry in producing more stable and healthy lipids for consumers.

  Full-Day Program at NIU-Hoffman Estates, IL

 

The USP sets internationally recognized standards for food ingredients and dietary supplements through the Food Chemicals Codex.  Join speakers from the USP for a Food Chemicals Codex User Forum on Tuesday, May 17, 2011.  Registration will start at 8:30 am. The presentations will start at 9:00 am and will run until 3:30 pm.  Lunch will be provided.  

 

This seminar will provide information on food ingredient quality standards and the FCCstandards- setting process, in addition to the following topics:

 

  • Current food standards initiatives
  • Reference Materials for food ingredients
  • Dietary Supplements Compendium
  • Your involvement  in standards- setting

 

Whether you currently use the as a source of standards or you are interested in learning more about compendial standards and how they work, come join us.
