Take the time this month to clean out the garage or basement and rid your home of unwanted chemicals and electronics responsibly. The City's permanent Household Chemicals and Computer Recycling Facility will be open this Saturday, October 2 from 8AM - 3PM. You may also drop off your items during weekly hours of operation. Visit the City's website for more information.   

There will be an electronics collection for 48th ward residents at their ward yard, 5853 N. Broadway St. on Saturday, October 16 from 8AM-Noon. Please call Ernie at Alderman Smith's office at 773-784-5277 with any questions.

The Household Chemicals and Computer Recycling Facility is now accepting working and non-working television sets during regular hours of operation.

What We Worry About: Ten Chicago Artists and Our Green Concerns

The Chicago Center for Green Technology (CCGT), in partnership with the Global Alliance of Artists, is hosting a unique collection of art created by ten Chicago visual artists. The artists will present their perspectives on concerns ranging from Chicago's environmental
challenges to the global challenge of climate change.

Join us at the opening reception on Thursday, October 7 from 5:30-7:30PM to meet the artists and hear more about their projects.

GreenTown Chicago: The Future of Community

October 13-14 at Columbia College Chicago

GreenTown Chicago: The Future of Community is a one-day conference designed to help create sustainable communities.

The event showcases national and local leaders who are at the forefront of sustainable urbanism, transit-oriented development, green neighborhoods, municipal food scrap recycling, zero waste schools, local food systems and more.

GreenTown Chicago's featured speaker will be Philippe Cousteau, activist and Chief Ocean Correspondent for Animal Planet and Planet Green. He is the grandson of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau and CEO of EarthEcho International, a non-profit environmental education and conservation organization. At GreenTown, Cousteau will detail his experience with the recent Gulf Coast Disaster as well as the problems that we continue to face with water quality and supply.

GreenTown is produced by a5 inc. and Seven Generations Ahead, a non-profit organization based in Oak Park, Illinois. The conference, hosted by Columbia College Chicago and sponsored by the City of Chicago, will be held on the 8th Floor at the Film Row Cinema at 1104 South Wabash in downtown Chicago.

Mayors and elected officials, public works directors, park district directors, planners, developers, architects, landscape architects, builders, school leaders and members of the public who are interested in learning how a community can become greener are invited to attend.
