2010 Earth Day Video Contest & Daley Plaza Celebration
More than two years ago, Mayor Richard M. Daley launched the Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP), a roadmap for how the City and its partners will tackle the challenge of climate change. Everyone has a role to play. To learn what local students are doing to make a difference and recognize their efforts, the CCAP team is sponsoring an Earth Day video contest. Scholarships up to $2,000 will be awarded for the top three videos in three categories: grades 5-8, grades 9-12 and college undergraduates. Winning submissions will be featured at the City's Earth Day Celebration on Daley Plaza on April 22 and on-line. Videos must be 90 seconds or less. Only Chicago residents are eligible to win. Check the Chicago Climate Action Plan website for guidelines, rules and event information. Submissions are due by April 12. |
Tweet Home Chicago Bird House Design + Build Competition
Design and build a bird house for your favorite bird and bird-friendly spot in Chicago. The City of Chicago and its partners are hosting a competition to raise awareness about the importance of birds and bird-friendly habitat in Chicago. More than 80 native species of birds nest here and two hundred more use our city as a rest stop during migration. Birds help control insect populations and pests, pollinate flowers and bring nature into our lives.
Monetary and bonus prizes will be awarded to top placements in both adult and youth categories. Many of the bird houses will be displayed at high-profile public venues, installed near Chicago Park District field houses and/or auctioned to raise money for bird conservation efforts in the city. Register by April 16. Houses are due April 29-May 1. For more information, visit the City's website. |
