National Tribal Horse Coalition Joins the United Organizations of the Horse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At a historic meeting in Fort Hall, Idaho, on May 13, 2009 the Northwest Tribal Horse Coalition became the National Tribal Horse Coalition and joined with the United Organizations of the Horse.  The ability of tribes to manage their horse herds is severely constrained by the loss of markets for unusable horses, and they are coming together to find solutions that will benefit all tribes. 
 
Idaho Jumps In!

On May 14th Sue Wallis and her husband, Rod McQueary, sat down with a roomful of people from the Idaho Horse Board and the Idaho Horse Council in Boise, Idaho. The horse people of Idaho were excited to hear about efforts to unite the voices of the horse world, and to work together on issues so vital to our survival. They are planning to send representatives to the First Annual Leadership Summit, and are particularly interested in getting behind and pushing forward a Congressional bill that will actually support, instead of destroy, our ability to use, manage, and enjoy horses in the future. 
 
California Gets Organized...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A diverse group of horse owners came together at John Harris' Inn at Coalinga, California on Sunday, May 18th to reorganize the California Horse Council. The gathering was officially a joint meeting of the newly reformed California Horse Council and the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, but the room was filled with a wide variety of ranching, racing, and recreational horse owners, as well as people from the draft horse and horse-drawn vehicle worlds.
The over-arching theme of the day was the scope and serious threats to the industry, and the absolute need for horse owners regardless of their discipline or their business to come together and unite as one voice.

Plans Progress for First Annual Leadership Summit

The United Organizations of the Horse will hold their First Annual Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. on June 14th, 2009. The Founding Leadership Team is working hard to make arrangements, and lay the foundation for a vibrant and vital voice of horse owners in our Nation's capitol and across the country.
