Many of you know that on July 5th-8th, Portland will be filled with recorder music as 100 and more recorder performers, players, teachers, students, administrators, and music business members gather at the Reed College campus for the exciting American Recorder Society 2012 Festival, themed The Recorder: Past, Present & Future. During the Festival, sessions provide opportunities for participants to experience the depth of the recorder throughout the history of its past, the diversity of the recorder in present times, and the possibilities before us for the future. For more information about events at the Festival, follow this link: http://www.americanrecorder.org/events/Festival/2012_Festival.html Hope to see you at the Festival! Portland Recorder Orchestra at Sunday Parkways - Join in the fun! | by Ellen Mendoza
Sunday Parkways is a great car-free biking and walking event that takes place one Sunday a month throughout the summer. The first one was TODAY, Sunday, May 13 in Northeast Portland. For the past three years, the Portland Recorder Orchestra has graced the sidewalks of this event and played tunes as folks zoom past. Strangely, renaissance music fits right in with the quiet person-powered vibe. Although we were not organized to deliver music this Sunday, we invite all who care to play to come to the one and only rehearsal for the summer, on June 13, 2012, at 7pm, at my house, 2866 SE Harrison St Portland, OR 97214. Returning players bring your music from last year, though I may have some new tunes too. New members, I will have music for you when you come. The dates for the Parkways events are June 24, July 22, August 26, September 30. Come for one or all of them. I tell you where and when to meet, having scoped out the route before hand, and you show up with music, stand, and instrument. Carol Dumond conducted last year and I conduct as well. This is a low stress, high fun group, but we do play standing (unless you bring your own chair for an hour, and go through about fifteen to twenty tunes. Most people pick one kind of recorder for the whole gig, but if you want to vary your line you can do that within the needs of the mix of players. Questions? Email me or call at 503 239-1974.
