Message from our Guest Conductor
Hello Recorderists!
I'm really looking forward to leading the session on December 16th. I'm bringing a variety of seasonal pieces from various periods that will be fun to read including William Byrd's beautiful 6 part "This day Christ was born: A Carol for Christmas Day" from his Psalmes, Songs, and Sonnets of 1611, Arcangelo Corelli's "Concerto fatto per la notte di Natale" from 1710, and an arrangement I did of "London Waits" from John Playford, a nightwatchman melody to which the carol "Past Three O'Clock" is sung. We'll also play one of my all time favorites "Noe, noe" by Jean de Castro c. 1582 which works great on reeds, the seriously mixolydian haunting old Irish carol "The Wexford Carol," and a version I did of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" with an ending that should guarantee a standing ovation, at least in the U.S. I hope to see you there!
Phil Neuman

"The Color Blue" by Hans Henrik Brandt, performed by Wood'N'Flutes Recorder Trio (Vicki Boeckman, Pia Brinch Jensen, Gertie Johnsson)
Please enjoy this music. It is seasonal/holiday music to me because it represents those clear cold winter days where the blue sky seems impossible and the wind chill resonates within your bones. I'm sure everyone will have their own interpretation. Happy Holidays! -Zoe
