PRS and ARS

Greetings and welcome to the fifth season of the Portland Recorder Society!  I know your summer was a busy one, what with the Portland Recorder Orchestra at all the Sunday Parkways events, the Holborne Chicken marathon, summer music festivals, and all that practicing you did!  This season promises to be exciting as well; we'll welcome a couple new conductors, enjoy socializing at the Columbia Gorge Early Music Retreat, and host the prestigious ARS Festival.  Let us know what other activities or opportunities you'd like to see happen, and/or contact us to volunteer your time!

Spread the word!  Anyone who plays recorder, strings, or soft renaissance reeds is welcome to come play at the monthly recorder orchestra sessions on third Fridays of the month (normally).  September's session is delayed to accommodate our beloved music director, Vicki Boeckman, who is returning from her musical exploits in Denmark a few days earlier.  I hear rumors that she is recording a new CD with her recorder ensemble, Wood 'N' Flutes.

Are you interested in past PRS newsletter content?  Don't forget, we now have a Constant Contact archive!  We have newsletters going back to the 2008 season!  You can access the archive from our website, the menu to the left, or just follow this link:

This is a new music listening service online.  It is definitely worth checking out as the classical library is enormous and it's interface quite intuitive if you're used to using iTunes.  Really easy and fun to share tracks with friends.  Good search functions to find new artists as well.  Fair warning...the ads on the free version are obnoxious, but I think it is still worthwhile and would consider paying $5/month for ad-free, or $10/month to listen on my smartphone as well.
