From Eileen Hadidian
Hello Portland Recorder Players,
I am delighted that
the Portland ARS chapter is doing so well, with two successful annual
workshops that certainly impressed those of my California students who
attended!
My husband and I will be vacationing
in Portland the last week of July, and I would like to set up a few
lessons with those of you who are interested. Teaching will take place
at Susan Campbell's home in NE Portland.
There are two possible days for teaching, and we will go with the one that has most sign-ups.
Please
put your name next to a date and time frame that works for you, and
also whether it will be a solo lesson or ensemble coaching. You can
send the response to me directly at ehmuse@comcast.net. DATE: Monday, 7/26 - afternoon and/or evening (3 pm on) OR Wednesday, 7/28 - afternoon and/or evening (3 pm on)
COST: $50/hour for a private lesson $60/hour for ensemble coaching (duo, trio, quartet, quintet) with cost to be shared among ensemble members
For those of you who don't know me, here's a short bio.
Vicki
Boeckman and I offered a workshop in Portland in June 2006, with the
hope that it would be an opportunity for recorder players to meet one
another, form ensembles, and eventually start a chapter. Everything we
wished for has happened, and I am so pleased that recorder activities
in Portland are thriving!
I grew up in
Lebanon, and am founder and artistic director of Healing Muses, a
non-profit organization that brings soothing music to Bay Area medical
centers. We have recorded five CDs on the Healing Muses label, produced
a Gig Book of some of our favorite arrangements for treble instrument
and harp/guitar/bass, and our work with healing music has been featured
in The American Recorder, Early Music America, Yoga Journal, and the
March 2008 issue of the journal of the San Francisco Medical Society,
which was devoted entirely to Music and Medicine.
I
was on the music faculty at Mills College for many years, have
concertized and taught workshops throughout the Western United States,
and was named Albany Woman of the Year for 2010 by Assemblywoman Nancy
Skinner, along with 13 other women, each representing one city in her
district.
Having grown up in the
multi-cultural milieu of Lebanon, special interests in early music
involve studying what was being composed and performed outside the
mainstream of Western Europe, and I have developed numerous workshop
topics and concert programs exploring music in Spanish America, French
Canada, Ireland and Scotland, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and the
Baltic countries, as well as music by women.
Hobbies
include immersing myself in novels set in different countries, learning
languages, yoga, walking in nature, gardening, international fairs,
foreign movies, and trying out new ethnic restaurants.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Eileen Hadidian
