Started as a hair washer at a beauty salon at 13. As the  oldest of 5 sisters, my first job was watching all of my younger sisters!

Your Wellness Philosophy:
Creating physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. I do yoga and meditate to keep my body aligned and pain-free, to clear my mind, to balance my emotions, and to enrich my spiritual life. I find great joy in moving my body in the outdoors, whether for a hike, a bike ride, or simply walking my dogs around the park! I love eating tons of fresh fruit, vegetables, and grains. It not only helps me feel connected to nature by eating whole foods, but makes my body feel vibrant and healthy.

Childhood Ambition:

I thought I would end up as a member of a symphony or a conductor.

Proudest Accomplishment:
Being self-employed as a yoga instructor is pretty amazing! I get to meet awesome people every day and provide them with an experience that allows them to leave feeling better.

 A Note from Keith
keith moore A funny thing has happened this year. For the first time, I am wondering if Colorado is finally sinking in and I'm losing my California roots. I am excited for autumn to arrive! Really excited. Ecstatic actually.  If you recall, each year I lament the ending of summer. Not this year.

We have an amazing fall season planned for you at the club.
 
The Pura Vida management team spent a couple of days away on a work retreat in August. We reviewed the last six months of operations and discussed the coming six months. In an all-day meeting, the team discussed their plans for the future. We dug into what we need to change and what we need to keep the same. We reviewed our vision and what makes us different. It was cathartic in many ways. It was important, and you will see and feel many of our ideas in the coming months.
 
Driving back down off the mountain on the way back to Denver, J. and I continued to discuss Pura Vida's vision and character. We talk about Pura Vida a lot around here. And rightfully so. We put a good deal of our lives into the club and this isn't a "job" for anyone.  A career, yes, but ultimately its about doing something that we are proud of and something that we have fun doing - and sharing. And something that helps people.
 
As we drove through the amazing beauty of the Rocky Mountains, I noticed that some of the foliage had begun to change color and I thought to myself: You know, life is pretty good. How lucky am I to do what I love, to be surrounded by exceptionally talented and passionate people and to see the benefits of fitness and health every day in our members faces?
 
As autumn quietly changes the trees and cools the temperatures, as nature grows more quiet and surrenders to sleep, Pura Vida comes alive to a whole new season of life and energy. We welcome back many of our members who have taken the summer to enjoy the outdoors and welcome members who are new to Pura Vida. The season change brings new classes, new ideas and an increased social calendar at the club. It's an exciting time. I'm excited for fall.
 
Finally I would like to invite everyone to the September social, the St. Lucia White Party. This very special evening benefits PKS Kids and honors Lucia Dawkins.  Lu is an amazing little girl who is near and dear to us here at Pura Vida, as are her parents Juliet and Jason. The event is Friday, September 28th from 7pm to 11pm at the Artwork Network in the Arts District on Santa Fe. Open bar, Caribbean cuisine and live music. Tickets can be purchased at Member Services or at
stluciawhiteparty.myevent.com. We look forward to sharing a wonderful evening with everyone.

INTRODUCING WELLNESS COACHING with Tier III Trainer, adrian Adrian Wegeng
Wellness Coaches are practitioners and life-long students of a vibrant new field: coaching psychology, which integrates more than fifteen other fields. Coaching psychology, in part, is the relational vehicle for implementing the tenets of positive psychology, a field focused on the scientific study of happiness and well-being.

The process of Wellness Coaching progresses through several stages:
You provide background information through an online well-being assessment so that you and your coach are well-informed on the key issues, including medical considerations.

During the first 60-90 minute coaching session, you identify your priorities and develop a personal wellness vision, three month plan and realistic goals.  In subsequent 30-45 minute coaching sessions, each week, month, or quarter, you and your coach review the progress toward your vision and goals, explore and resolve the most pressing issues, learn something new, and then agree on a set of goals for the following week. You will enjoy plenty of ah-ha insights along the way.
By the end of three months, you can expect to reach more than 70% of your three-month goals and feel energized and confident to embark on new areas. By the end of a year you can count on changing your mindset and behavior for good.

1. What is Pilates?
Pilates is a series of controlled exercises; its primary focus is the body's core - the abdominal, hip and back muscles.

2. Who practices Pilates? In the past, Pilates was primarily practiced by dancers and other athletes. Now, anyone and everyone should be doing Pilates. It's never too early or late to start. You don't have to be flexible.

3. How will it benefit me?
If you practice, you should see improved posture, better balance, a stronger core, increased overall physical awareness and decreased stress.

4. Why so few reps? I want to sweat!
The ultimate goal is precision of movement, not maximizing reps.

5. When will I see results?
If you practice two to three times a week, you should expect to see and feel changes in a month to six weeks.

6. I have back problems. Is Pilates safe?
Pilates decreases pain and disability in people with chronic lower-back issues through its core strengthening and lumbar stabilization.

7. Why is there a cost for Pilates?
Just like with personal training, you want an instructor who is certified and has the education and experience behind their teaching. You not only get a personal workout, but feedback on your posture and movement.

8. Can I practice at home?
PLEASE DO! There are many exercises to learn that are easier to remember and you DON'T have to use the equipment to do them!
