Spring is in the air and the sun is shining at Brent's Place! As the flowers are beginning to bloom, the Brent's Place kids all have a bad case of spring fever. They are all smiles playing outside more, swinging, sliding and playing hide and seek. Although they continue to receive daily cancer treatments, Brent's Place allows them the opportunity to still be kids. As you catch the spring fever and begin making your plans for the summer, please mark your calendars for Friday, May 11th and participate in the 3rd Annual Pura Vida Pur-A-thlon. You can choose from a variety of classes such as Indoor Spinning, Yoga, Strong Body, Dance or a Spa day.
Beginning April 15th, you can register at pur-a-thlon.org in support of the Brent's Place kids and their families. And after a long day, we will celebrate at the Viva la Vida party in celebration of the kids! So, as you wish upon your lucky dandelion this spring, please wish the Brent's Place kids with cancer well! By participating in the Pur-A-thlon, you will have personally made a difference in the lives of the special families we serve. On behalf of the Staff and all the grateful families at Brent's Place, we express gratitude for your generosity and kindness from our children and families facing critical illness.

We support the Barefoot Movement! It is important to acknowledge your transition from a traditional shoe to a minimalist shoe/barefoot training. Removing the heel rise in your shoe will affect your gait. Increasing your activity in these shoes conservatively and including foot strengthening exercises in your regime is key to having a successful transition.

A Note from J April 15th is the start of Pura Vida's 5th year . Those members, or early adopters, who have been with us since the beginning, have witnessed a remarkable transformation. Thanks to each of you for your belief and support as we have endured the grips of the recession along with a host of other challenges that tested us to our core. I can speak for our entire staff when I share that we never lost our belief or commitment to do our best in our pursuit of serving our members and being vigilant in our efforts to provide each of you an exceptional experience with every visit.
The past 4 years have been among the most interesting and challenging of my career. Creating Pura Vida has made an indelible imprint on my life and my understanding of how daring to be different can have a profound impact on more lives than mine. The goal for Pura Vida from the beginning was to be different from our competition. We wanted to not only provide a remarkable fitness experience, but create an awareness of civic opportunities, fundraising for a variety of nonprofits, feature environmental causes, and create a Pura Vida community that focused on a shared like mindedness of our members. We enhanced each of these categories of our operating platform with a truly remarkable staff of professionals that fully believe in and subscribe to Pura Vida's trademarked expression "Embody the Good Life".
Our value proposition is more than fitness classes, cardio equipment, and weights. All of our competitors provide a full assortment of each. Where we differ is our deeper connection with our members where life-long relationships have been forged and the finest fitness experience available is provided every single day. The Pura Vida experience continues to have a profound impact on many of us, which is incredibly gratifying and reinforces the reason to exist.
Pura Vida as a Costa Rican philosophy has been assimilated into our Club culture. The essence of this message resonates with our entire staff, our talented instructors, our remarkable Personal Training and Pilates professionals, our outstanding Spa Team, and you our treasured members. All of you could belong to another club, but the experience would not be the same, which is part of the incredible genesis of what has become a remarkable Pura Vida story. Each of you has contributed to our story and added a certain richness that has allowed us to withstand the impacts of the economy and the associated struggles of a start-up business during a most inauspicious time. Customer support and belief must be earned, and if we do our jobs, loyalty will be the sweet reward. We wake up every day to once again prove ourselves to you, our esteemed member. The Pura Vida spirit may still be in its infancy, but our maturity has strengthened our resolve and deepened our focus of truly making a difference in the lives of each and every member.
The challenges of our past have shaped our character and made us better. We understand and respect the rigors of proving ourselves on a daily basis. Ashley has her Masters in Counseling, is a Certified Power Yoga and Yoga Sculpt Instructor, Certified TRX Trainer, and Personal Trainer.
WELCOME HEATHER SMYTH!
Heather started instructing group fitness classes at the Auraria Campus Rec Center where she first trained to be an indoor cycling instructor and later progressed to learn other forms of fitness instruction. She began to teach classes like Ripped in 30, Cycle and Strength and Abs and Back. Heather received her Schwinn Indoor Cycling Instructor Certification in 2010 as well as the AFAA Primary Group Fitness certification.

YOGA YOGA FOR BEGINNERS with Jessica Sherwood

Learn the fundamentals of yoga in an accessible format. We'll cover many of the basic poses you will encounter in a yoga class at a slower pace, focusing on body position and alignment while in the pose. We will also cover the general format of a yoga class, including a brief meditation at the beginning of class, as well as a guided relaxation at the end of class.
