| Pura Vida partners with you to help raise awareness and funds for organizations making a difference.
$20 minimum donation gives access to the club and specially added classes.
Share Pura Vida and the support of this worthy cause with friends and family when Pura Vida opens its doors to the public on Sunday, March 4th from 12-4pm.
Denver Green School is a Neighborhood Innovation School - meaning it implements its own unique program design, approved through a rigorous process by the Denver Public School Board. The emphasis on project-based learning allows teachers and students to engage in relevant, self-directed, teacher-facilitated learning. In addition to the current national "Green Movement"- DGS also believes that "green" has a deeper meaning. Green must mean a focus on the whole student and the whole community. Of course, at the heart of that belief, is the focus on carbon footprint reduction and on environmental and social sustainability.
Funds raised through contributions of members and friends of Pura Vida will go towards the school gardens cared for by students that produce food used in school lunches! denvergreenschool.org

We've selected Terra Plana and their VIVOBAREFOOT line as our exclusive minimalist shoe provider.

We support the Barefoot Movement! It is important to acknowledge your transition from a traditional shoe to a minimalist shoe/barefoot training. Removing the heel rise in your shoe will affect your gait. Increasing your activity in these shoes conservatively and including foot strengthening exercises in your regime is key to having a successful transition.

A Note from Keith
Seventy percent of all Americans will begin a fitness program as an adult. In less than three months, eighty percent will quit and abandon that fitness program entirely. These numbers recently reported through IHRSA are sobering, but for those of us in the fitness industry, not surprising. Many health clubs rely heavily on these percentages, planning their business cycles and club operations around the very fact that many of their members will not show up once they join. A well-known chain club nearby and on a corner is said to have over 7,000 members on their books. Many in long term contracts that, regardless if they are using the facility or not, cannot end their membership. This infuriates me as well as the rest of the staff. The very notion of assuming the member will stop coming after 90 days is the antithesis of what Pura Vida is about. I can assure you that every person that works at Pura Vida left organizations and other health clubs because the true meaning of health and wellness was not important or honored. I mention these statistics for a couple of reasons: Our members do show up. And they work hard at achieving their fitness and health goals. The entire fitness staff, from trainers to group fitness, from yoga instructors to the Pilates staff work very hard to get to know each members' name and to offer a truly exceptional experience. In the four years that Pura Vida has been in existence our reputation as having the best classes and instructors has been firmly cemented in the Denver market and beyond. That said, March is a month that we watch closely in terms of member usage to insure that members are still committed. In the fitness business, March has historically been the month that New Year's fitness resolutions are broken. Our goal at Pura Vida is to insure that you are achieving what you set out to do. We want you to show up. And we'll do whatever it takes to insure that you do. With this is mind, I also feel it's necessary to discuss Pura Vida's growth, as there has been member discussion and concern with overcrowding. The club looks at NET membership growth each month. We plan our marketing and outreach for new membership needs around the anticipated loss. The number one reason people leave Pura Vida (we do an exit interview) is because they are moving out of the area. There of course are a number of other reasons, but relocation leads the list. If we have 40 new members join us in a given month, but have 30 leave, we have a net of 10 memberships. I in no way want anyone to feel that we look at members' as numbers, as this certainly is not the case. But I do feel it's important to explain to those concerned that Pura Vida is not overselling the club. As much as I hate to say it, we too experience resolution madness the first quarter of every year. I also do want to mention that Mondays and Tuesdays are by far our busiest days/evenings. By the end of the week we are seeing 200 less people a day at the club. That is considerable. In the hopes to even this out, you will begin to see more classes added throughout the week. Check us out Thursday-Sunday and you will find a very quiet club. Finally, I want to ask that you save the date of Thursday, April 20th to celebrate with us. It's our 4th anniversary! We will be having a celebration party at the club with food, drink and entertainment. Pura Vida's success is because of you, our members. We are celebrating you as much as we are celebrating the club's anniversary. Please join us. To Spring!

GROUP EX A WORD FROM SARAH FOX, Pura Vida Group Ex Coordinator
You CAN be successful in ANY group fitness class! People often ask me which group fitness class is "best" for them. After asking a few questions to learn more about experiences and interests, I can definitely pick a few classes for to start with. In addition to class recommendations, I always encourage trying something new. Doing something you have never done before can be scary but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it. Trying a new fitness class may be just what you need to create a new challenge for your body and your mind helping to keep you fresh, healthy, and youthful! By remembering a few simple tips you can be more confident entering into a new class that you might otherwise be intimidated by.
1. Come prepared - If you are feeling well, you are more likely to have a good time and feel successful. Make sure to come to class rested, hydrated and well nourished. Making sure to eat something nutritious prior to your workout can provide you with the energy that your mind and body need to endure the class; try an apple and nut butter, yogurt and some nuts or trail mix, or a well-balanced energy drink or bar.
2. You are your best teacher - The instructor is your guide but you are your best teacher and only you know what your body is feeling and needs. If any exercise is causing pain then you should NOT "muscle" through it just because everyone else is. Take a modification if one is provided and or take your own modification if one is not offered (you can always go back to an exercise that you were previously doing, keep your body moving and your heart pumping, or take a water break!)
3. Let your guard down - Try introducing yourself to someone new in class and bringing a positive attitude and smile with you. If you come to class expecting to fail then you will probably have a terrible time and feel defeated when all is said and done. Stay positive, laugh at yourself, shake your hips in a new way, and most importantly HAVE FUN! Hope to see you in class soon! Please feel free to contact Sarah with feedback regarding our Programming schedule at sarahf@puravidaclub.com. WE'VE REFINED OUR MOVE PROGRAMMING!

WELCOME ROBIN HUTCHINSON to the Holistic Nutrition Dept. Robin Hutchinson, MBA, MNT Nutrition therapy is the practice of using food and lifestyle modifications to help you meet your health and wellness goals. It is a natural complement to regular exercise. Remember what your mother told you, "Eat well and exercise!" My approach with clients is practical and effective. I work with you and your family suggesting food, lifestyle, vitamin and western herb supplementation to give you greater vitality. My system works because I teach you how the body uses food, and I clarify commonly held nutritional misconceptions. This enables you to make well-informed nutritional choices, which naturally leads to improved health. Some people have one or more very specific health issues. Others simply want to clean up their diet. Together, we change bad habits to create a good solid foundation for better health. I develop individualized nutrition solutions that include menu plans, recipes, food lists, restaurant guides and more. I specialize in nutritional support for women's health (pregnancy, PMS, perimenopause), weight loss, sleep issues, food allergies, digestive disturbance, fatigue, mild depression, and issues related to focus and concentration. I hold a Masters in Nutrition Therapy with additional coursework in functional blood chemistry analysis, thyroid and neurotransmitter deficiency, and digestive health. When I am not singing the praises of wholesome food, I stay active practicing yoga, road biking, and cooking delicious dinners for friends and family. Please contact me for a complimentary 20 minute initial consultation. I'm happy to discuss how nutrition therapy fits into your personal goals. Contact me at robinh@puravidaclub.com or at ext 135.
