Unless you move to Arizona or Florida for the winter, your golf game has come to a halt. It's typically the winter season in which we promise ourselves to get to the range or indoor lessons at least once a month. Then, May rolls around and we hope to simply remember how to swing a club.

 

This cycle has plagued me many times. The one thing that keeps my body intact after the onset of spring golf is maintenance of the dynamic skill of a golf swing. Incorporating basic, but precise warm-up movement before my workout helps me weed out the limitations that accumulate while not swinging. It's good to note your asymmetries in trunk and femoral rotation, along with shoulder immobilities. Your goal is to develop movement patterns that will lessen any asymmetries and open up range of motion.

 

One of the worst things we can do for our game, in the weight room, is to try and duplicate a swing. The golf swing has a very small margin of error. It's important to spend a great deal of time developing a re-occurring motor pattern to have a consistent swing. When we add weighted clubs, cables or unstable surfaces to our practice swing, it changes our neural patterning for the swing - making this practice very counterproductive.


Look for "KEEPING YOUR SWING" programming - Tim will host in early 2012, via the Titleist Performance Institute training.

When a client comes in and says they want to work their core I tell them, you are in the right place!

One of my favorite exercises is Mermaid on the chair. I love the stretch! To me, Pilates means and is a whole body workout. 

 

I was first introduced and began training in Pilates over 10 years ago. I got into teaching Pilates after a car accident. Not only was Pilates a part of my physical therapy rehabilitation, but the beginning of a new career. It was because of this that I decided to pursue a teacher training program and continue to learn about anatomy and physiology and use of movement as a form of rehabilitation. I am also an Occupational Therapist and like to integrate the two areas of practice when working with clients.

 

As a Pilates Instructor, I focus on alignment from head to toe. I enjoy working with clients who want to and are using Pilates as a part of their rehabilitation. I also like working with clients who want to increase their core strength and eliminate back pain. 

 

I teach because I enjoy seeing progress between sessions in each of my clients.
