We've selected Terra Plana and their VIVOBAREFOOT line as our exclusive minimalist shoe provider.
We support the Barefoot Movement and feel that it can provide benefits to many. However, it's important to acknowledge your transition from a traditional shoe to a minimalist shoe/barefoot training. Removing the heel rise in your shoe will affect your gait. Increasing your activity in these shoes conservatively and including foot strengthening exercises in your regime is key to having a successful transition.
Barefoot and minimalist shoe training can strengthen your feet and recruit additional muscle fibers throughout the lower leg, improve stability and mobility throughout your ankle joint, increase your proprioceptive feedback, encourage a more natural gait and overall movement.

Bring your reusable water bottle with you when you work out and fill up at either the water machines on the 2nd and 3rd floor or at the water sinks on each floor. A MESSAGE FROM KEITH

For the first time in my life, I am excited for Autumn! Let the leaves fall! Let the air become crisp! Let the days shorten and sweaters be worn! Being a warm weather guy, I have historically not embraced the Fall and Winter months. This year? Bring it on! Autumn at Pura Vida is a special time. The energy of the club picks up with returning members, new fitness classes and programs are added to the schedule, the social events outside of the club increase with the change of the season, our spa team creates new and enticing services and an overall buzz begins to infiltrate the club. This Autumn is no different. We have some wonderful classes and programs ready to launch at Pura Vida and I think you will be very happy with the new season. Along with an array of new options in classes, we prepare for a busy social season with our members. First off, I'd like to announce our partnership and collaboration with the Colorado Ballet. Since 1961 the ballet has been serving more than 110,000 patrons each year. We will be welcoming the company to the club as members, (Yes, that's a ballerina next to you on the treadmill) as well as creating special offers and parties exclusively for Pura Vida members. Going forward Pura Vida will be known as the official health club of the Colorado Ballet. This relationship will allow us to strengthen our roots in the Denver Arts community, as well as promoting health and wellness through dance. This will be our second year sponsoring the Denver Film Festival. Last year the two weeks of amazing films and screenings, red carpet events, celebrities and the infamous Black Swan party made an impression on many of our members. If you have yet to experience this two week event held in the fall, now is your chance. Pura Vida will join many of the parties this year, as well as offer screening opportunities at the Pura Vida screening room at the Denver Film Center/Colfax. Look for information throughout the club coming soon. Ballet, film festivals, monthly happy hour socials...how does any of this relate to health and wellness? While we guarantee that you will not find a better fitness experience in Denver, we also want to insure that your heart and soul are cared for, too. Pura Vida meaning "pure, full life" and our tag line of "Embody the Good Life" means that we are going to do our best to insure that your experience as a member is well-rounded and joyous. We want you to be healthy; mind, body and soul. As I have mentioned in past newsletters, community and friendship is important to overall health. If we can all get a work out in together... a yoga class, some Pilates..and then enjoy some culture and a glass of wine? That's Pura Vida. Last but certainly not least, I would like to invite everyone to join us on September 25th here at the club for a very special Impact fundraising event (see sidebar). Juliet Dawkins was in our membership department for three years and was instrumental in developing the culture of the club and the membership base. She is in fact responsible for creating the monthly Impact program, the monthly member socials, and is a key part of the successful membership growth of Pura Vida. Juliet has taken time away from Pura Vida to care for Lucia, her beautiful baby daughter who was born with a rare chromosomal syndrome called Pallister-Killian. We will be celebrating Lucia, Juliet and Jason and the PKS Kids from 12-6pm. Bring your family and friends as the club will be open to non-members for this special event. PERSONAL TRAINING
 I am a native of Austin, Texas and recently moved to Colorado for my love of the mountains and for a change of pace from life in Texas. I am a NASM certified personal trainer as well as a USA Cycling level 3 coach and hold a R-Phase Z-Health certification. I am a ski addict and snow bum when the opportunities present themselves, Elite road cyclist and aspiring XC mountain bike racer. Love all things outdoors and the challenge of new sports and adventures.
I specialize in post-rehab pain, through a revolutionary movement system called Z-Health. Through specific Z-Health movements my aim is to provide Injury Rehabilitation, Neural Re-Education, and Mobility Restoration to clients on an individual basis and promote integration of these exercises throughout workouts.
I also specialize in endurance training for a variety of sports, as well as providing nutritional guidance for individuals and their sport. Providing specific goals and time lines for each athlete in their respective sport with periodized training schedules yields huge results for athletes of any caliber and eases the burden of long-term training.
Training Philosophy: Everyone is an athlete. Everything is a skill. You ALWAYS get better at EXACTLY what you do. Train with precision, train with consistency, become the athlete you are.

"I don't like to warm up before working out so I jump on the treadmill for 3-5min and then get started. Is that sufficient?"
Probably not. If your workout after that is walking faster and steeper on the treadmill, than its probably ok. It is better than nothing.
Warming up goes beyond simply "increasing the body's temperature." A pre-workout routine can be a very valuable part of your time spent in the gym. A lot of warmups mimic injury rehabilitation movements. By doing these movements outside of injury, they have a preventative quality. A good pre-workout routine is focused on getting the body ready for the specific demands that are about to be placed upon it. This deals with the speed of the work and also intensity. This gets the nervous system into a heightened state so that your workout will have better quality throughout. A huge injury prevention part of a warm up deals with imbibition. This is the lubrication action between articulating surfaces. We can only get imbibition through movement. It's easy to think of our joints needing to be lubricated, but so does the facia between muscles. Ever try peeling apart a cold grilled cheese sandwich? This is the friction that occurs between the facia of muscles. Decreasing the viscosity aids in the movement and the ease at which the muscles can operate.

Tammy Kinsman Certified Polestar Pilates Instructor When a client comes into the studio and tells me they want to work their core, I ask them to define "core", which usually leads to a pretty interesting conversation! However, I like to make sure that we are on the same page in order to personalize his/her training program and am capable and happy to adapt my teaching style to a client's needs and desires. I found a passion for movement education at a very young age. It was actually through my background in gymnastics and while I was personal training in Miami, that I fell in love the playfulness of the workout of Pilates. It promises to put you back together rather than break you down. The Pilates movement system fulfills my passion on so many levels. Pilates gives me the necessary tools to enhance the quality of life of my clients.
To me, Pilates represents the fountain of youth. I love integrating the classical Pilates method with a modern approach.
One of my favorite exercises is the rowing series, because it feels so good to the entire body. Outside of Pilates, I like to vary my workouts between yoga, kinesis, and weight training. willpower™ is one of my favorite group classes.

GUIDED MEDITATION with Kemper Kiger Introduced to yoga in 2008 in his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kemper's path has progressed rapidly through regular study, self-inquiry, and dedication to his practice. His physical practice (asana) greatly expanded and matured through the Moksha Yoga Center 200-hour certification program in Chicago, but Kemper's meditation practice remains primary. Through meditation, Kemper has an increased amount of focus and clarity, as well as a greater capacity for living a genuinely fulfilled life.
Class Description:
An attitude of exploration and non-judgment makes space for the development of each individual's practice. Classes will begin with a few minutes of asana and easy breath work to relax the body and calm the mind. A part-guided, part-silent meditation will follow that will be easily accessible and user friendly. A variety of techniques will be available to experience.
