EDC focuses on collaboration and partnerships as we work to develop economic opportunities for McHenry County. We're off to a solid start! Below are a  few highlights we thought might be of interest...

Additional Federal funding was received for the following:
  • $750,000 for Rakow Road through Congressman Don Manzullo
  • $280,000 for Stormwater  Management through Congressman Don Manzullo
  • $250,000 FAST Initiative through Congresswoman Melissa Bean
Washington Trip in March
We have been collaborating with the County to develop the federal requests for our trip to Washington in March and are in support of the McHenry County Federal Legislative Program for FFY 2011.   In addition to our transportation related requests, we will also bring forward the need for Water Shed Studies for Nippersink and Upper Fox River, Stormwater Study Update with detail on volume and flooding, Federal technology dollars for electronic filing, Software to manage warrants and funding for the F.A.S.T. (Flexible and Sustainable Training) via the CLIMB (Capacity for Learning In Multiple Modes and Bridges)program.

Regional Collaboration
We met with Ken Yunker and Don Reed of the South Eastern Wisconsin Planning Commission to discuss future transportation and infrastructure plans along the border.  Among their long range plans is an extension of Rt. 12 to 94.  Walworth County and WISDOT (Wisconsin Department of Transportation) are planning to extend 12 as an expressway to Whitewater and as a separate project an expressway bypass of Whitewater.  From that point to 94, the plans are not as definite, but the present thinking is a new 5 lane cross section which might have some signalized at grade intersections to 94. We are going to be meeting with Walworth County as well as Lake Geneva during this first quarter to further discuss opportunities for collaboration and to learn of their plans to repair, widen and perhaps realign some of their roads.

Dedicated Business Development Contact
We have been working with SomerCor over the past few months and are pleased to announce that they now have a dedicated individual to focus on McHenry County SBA financing opportunirties.  EDC held a Banker's Coffee on January 21st to introduce Bill Kornit.  Bill will also be a speaker at our EDC Roundtable being held February 18th at 8 AM here at our office.

Wildlife Project
We have been involved in confidential meetings for the past several years on a wildlife project which will extend from Illinois to Wisconsin. Plans are now being publicly released. Wisconsin is committed to at least 5,000 acres from the border north into Linn Township near Lake Geneva and perhaps over time, more than 10,000 acres.  IDNR and the Conservation District and the EDC spearheaded by County government are cooperating on a federal study to determine the feasibility and outline the IL side of the project.  Pending bills in Congress may provide substantial infrastructure monies this year if the county and municipalities are ready to act.  Late this year or next year, the vital Federal Six Year Transportation Authorization Bill will be acted upon.  EDC will continue to champion this project in Washington and Springfield.   For more information see:  Hack Ma Tack
