BASTILLE DAY - 7/14Bastille Day

Come celebrate Bastille Day at La Crepe! To storm the Bastille you'll need a hearty start to the day! Try the Crepe Crocque Madame -- ham, gruyere cheese, bechamel sauce and an egg on top -- for a French start to your morning. Finish your meal off with a real French favorite, one you find on every street corner of Paris -- Nutella and bananas, surrounded by a mound of whipped cream. Mention a fact about Bastille Day to the cashier at La Crepe! and receive a cup of Apple-A-Day juice free with your purchase of a savory crepe. Vive la France!

EIFFEL TOWER COOKIES - 7/14

Bastille Day occurs on the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and celebrates the reconciliation of the French people under the current constitutional monarchy. The Model Bakery thinks it serves as a great reminder to reconcile the mistaken belief that Marie Antoinette said, "let them eat cake." She actually said, "let them eat cookies. . . Eiffel Tower cookies from The Model Bakery. . . only $2.50 each."
SIERRA NEVADA DINNER - 7/16 Sierra Nevada Dinner

Specials this Week

MAHON FROM BALAERIC ISLANDSMAHON

Oxbow Cheese Merchant is offering the Mahón, a cow's milk cheese from the Balaeric Islands, Spain as its Friends of Oxbow special this week at 15% off. Mahón, from the island of Menorca, is one of a few cow's milk cheeses from Spain. It boasts a certain sharpness, and its lemony, salty flavors reflect the rural Mediterranean seascape. The rind contains a hard, crumbly cheddar-like texture and darkens as the wheels age. At its peak, Mahón is tangy, intense and delicious. Traditionally, in Spain, this cheese is eaten sprinkled with black pepper, olive oil and tarragon, though it is simply delicious on its own. The texture is dense and crumbly and the color is dark like artisan butter. Normally, the rind is rubbed with paprika, olive oil, and butter for added color and flavor, but this example has a natural rind and pure flavors. It is a stunning, robust cheese that is best matched with a full-bodied red like the delicous Napa Valley Tudal blend.

TUDAL NAPA VALLEYTudal

The 2008 Tudal Napa Valley Cuvee Red Blend from Napa Valley is the Friends of Oxbow special at Oxbow Wine Merchant this week. This is a blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Malbec, and even though it is a rather unusual combination of grapes it is a wonderful example of a muscular red blend. This has all the heady flavors that fans of Napa Valley are looking for: wonderful ripeness, dark color, warmth of flavors, deep rich fruit, and a nice dollop of new oak to give a lush chocolatey finish. This is a complete wine that leaves no stone unturned when it comes to sheer pleasure and will stand up to most hearty meats off the grill. The flavors of blackberry, cherry, plum, smokey meat, and a little black pepper spice are a perfect match for such dishes. Made by Kirk Venge as part of the Tudal Wine Group, from estate and purchased grapes, this wine is rich, smooth and satisfying and very drinkable at such a young age. Each grape contributes its own distinct character, but the sum adds up to seamless delight. The dark, spicy Petite Sirah is the backbone, the flesh is the berry-filled Zinfandel, and the Malbec adds subtle notes of fruit and aroma to the mix. This is a sure fire winner for any fan of juicy reds. It is hedonistic. Both the Tudal Napa Valley Cuvee and the matching cheese are 15% off this week only.
