Looking Back and Looking Ahead
This past year was a huge success for Neighbourhood Dance Works with a full season of workshops, performances, fundraisers and community events. A particular highlight was hosting the 18th Annual Festival of New Dance alongside the Society of Canadian Dance Studies annual conference. This collaboration provided a unique opportunity for dance practitioners and scholars to celebrate dance with performances, academic forums, creative workshops and networking events.
Neighbourhood Dance Works is committed to the development of a vibrant professional dance community and the advancement of emerging and mature dance artists. In keeping with this mandate our 2008-2009 Season promises something for everyone. Stay tuned for up-coming choreographic workshops, film screenings, riveting performances, and our 19th Annual Festival of New Dance.

A New Home and New Staff
Neighbourhood Dance Works has a new home. We recently moved into our new office space in the Haymarket Square at 223-233 Duckworth Street, Suite 205 (above Belbin's Steak House). We are thrilled with our new office and the potential it provides for future developments such as a Dance Resource Centre. Please drop in and see us. Our new phone number is 722-3663.
This past September we welcomed a new Production and Administrative Assistant to our team. Calla Lachance brings a wealth of experience to this role both as a dance artist and a community arts organizer. Welcome aboard Calla! |
Upcoming Events
Our Season kicks off on November 13th at the Masonic Temple with our dazzling Dance Performance / Fashion Show Fundraiser - Spectacular Spectacular featuring dance performances and some of the best fashions in town from Johnny Ruth, Twisted Sister and Model Citizen. This show will be unlike any catwalk you've ever seen.
First Look Studio Series
This season we are hosting three First Look events. In December and in January our First Look programs will feature choreographic, works-in-progress stemming from two intensive workshops lead by Martha Carter (Dec) and Eryn Dace Trudell (Jan). Our third First Look is scheduled for March. First Look performances provide an opportunity to see what local dancers are working on, and to participate in post-show discussions with established and emerging dance artists. |

Film Screening
In December we will be hosting a film screening of Martha Carter's documentary film St John's iDub. Carter's film follows the development and final performance of her exciting multi-disciplinary performance in the 16th Annual Festival of New Dance, which showcased many local dance artists. |

Workshops and Classes
We are delighted that both Martha Carter and Eryn Dace Trudell will return to St John's to host two separate Choreographic Mentoring Workshops. Both workshops will offer participants the chance to learn about choreographic process that will enhance their artistic growth as dancers.

| Outreach in the Schools
The schools program is part of NDW's community engagement and outreach program consisting of a series of workshops developed by Louise Moyes. Moyes' workshops are an ideal vehicle for finding the link between the curriculum and interpretation through performance and movement.
