Ame Henderson is one of Canada's foremost up and coming dance artists. She has been catapulted into the limelight with her hybrid performance language that fuses music, video and dance. Ame Henderson''s company will be performing /DANCE/SONGS/ "A dance in the shape of a rock show" on April 17 and 19 at the LSPU Hall in down town St. John's.
While in St. John's members of Ame's company, Public Recordings, will be offering dance classes to students of dance, theatre arts students and any one interested in participating in a fun and exciting dance workshop. The classes can be for all ages and all levels of experience. This is a fantastic chance to experience a class with some of Canada's top contemporary dance artists.
Please see below a description of the classes that we are able to offer. The group is in town from April 14 to 19, and can give classes on any day/time during that week. Please let me know if you think that this could work for your students. As mentioned earlier, the workshops could either take place at your school or dance studio or we could do it in the venue (the LSPU Hall). If you are interested in the third workshop, that would naturally take place in the venue, and might be the most interesting to theatre arts students.

Groove Class with Claudia Fancello Groove is a fun and energetic dance class mixing rhythm work and footwork to create a dancefloor feel. Fusing concepts found in House (and other, club dances), Hip Hop and Breakdance, this class explores the groove in all of us. Set to a soundtrack of bumping beats and soul music, we begin the class with a series of warm up movements and basic steps that flow into a short routine. Get ready to bop, slide and bounce (simply for the love of dancing). This class can be for all levels and ages. |
Contemporary technique class with Matija Ferlin
Matija Ferlin's classes include Release Technique and Muscle Bone training. His classes begin with exercises sourced from Pilates work with the aim to strengthen the abdominals in order to release the rest. The class continues with floor work that includes exercises and combinations that focus on the isolation of different body parts and joints. Trying to organize the body through its own musicality and importing exercises from Muscle and Bone training, the work involves negotiating with stamina in order to introduce at the end of the class, a dynamic dance sequence that revisits the tools from the beginning of the class.

LAB WORKSHOP
The company can offer a 'lab' workshop, where we
1. give a tour of the show's technical elements
2. perform an excerpt of the piece
3. give a short movement class.
This class could be a combo of all of these or just 1, 2 or 3. Let us know what you need and we will taper this class based on interest. |
