ARE YOU REALLY

READY TO GO?

He volunteered.  He was on the list to go.  He packed his bags.

Then he realized that he did not have a badge.  So, to his disappointment he did not get to go to North Dakota.  Yes, this is a true story.

Be sure this does not happen to you.  Keep your eligibility current.

If you have not had yellow cap training in the past 3 years, check the training calendar for a session near you.

Training dates are added

weekly, so keep watching until there is a session near you.

Disaster Relief Video
There is a video on the North American Mission Board web site that is well worth the time to view.  It really tells why we do disaster relief and it features a little of the team led by Billy Gilmore and the Paramount Unit.

A MESSAGE FROM DICK TALLEY

Progress On Many Fronts

The heat wave we have been enduring is very distracting. The nice thing is that we have been asked to send teams and leadership off to cooler North Dakota to work. The teams that have been there have had good experiences. Gerry Jones and Jim Pinkston are serving in the command center. We will be sending another Mud-Out team the latter part of the month.

Two of the teams have gone through orientation in our new facilities. This is working out very well. It has provided us insights on how we need to place furniture and lighting, where phones need to be, and how we can use the LED screens for presentations. Having people in the rooms helps us see things we could not visualize when the space was empty. I believe we are going to find the John La Noue center helps us in so many ways.

These hot days with rolling power outages have given us some challenges, Jim Pinkston and the other electricians have brought the new generator on line...another key piece to our operation.

If you have seen the article on our website about Haiti, you saw that things do not always go as expected. Our plan was to do foundation work with a piece of local equipment, but it did not go as anticipated. God's plan was much better. The lack of useful  equipment brought the church, the school, and the community together. It made our project their project. Each of the team members had a great experience. I pray that each team member that goes to Haiti can come away and say "they saw God at work." The community of petit Goave can say the same. I have been blessed to hear the reports of our teams.

THIN BLUE DIVIDERThe Joy Of Volunteering
From Ernie Rice

Americans can afford to volunteer. We lead the world in volunteerism and acts of charity. But I stand humbled by what I see the Calvary Baptist Church of Croix Hillaire doing. In a culture that does not embrace volunteerism, and could ill afford it if they did, I see this church turning out in high numbers to build this school. Heavy ditch digging and material hauling, done by hand and wheel barrows, is carried out in scorching heat and humidity. This is not volunteering. It is plain old sacrifice. Our valiant group struggles to keep up with school teachers, administrators, and the school treasurer, but they work us under the table, and stop just short of shaming us. The pastor is at a conference but due back tomorrow or the next day. We have facilitated a church leader in hiring a group of six to finish out digging the beams and filling with rock tonight. We should be able to begin pouring the foundation tomorrow. The team is hot and tired after a brutal day of labor and soaring temperatures. Pray that stamina and good sense prevail.

Clean Filtered Water Comes To The Rescue Of Crying Babies

Two nights in a row I have heard the cries of an infant coming from the neighborhood around us. The wailing reminded me of the painful cries my own children expressed while in the throes of colic. I despaired when the cries did not subside for hours.

Last night, Faucher, the man who owns the compound where we are staying, asked permission to give water, filtered by the system we installed here, to the community we live in.

He told me that there are several women here that have young babies and that he wants to help them. He had been telling me how wonderful the water tasted and what a relief it was to him in serving the many teams he hosts.

I mentioned to him the cries that I had heard the previous nights. He said that it was because there was no water in the home that was causing the babies distress. He was actually asking permission from me to help that baby and its mother! It squeezed my heart to speechlessness.

Last night there were no babies crying. Thank you Father for extending your provision to the people around us.
