Looking Back
August 2, 1985

Some disasters seem to be outside natural forces. Tragedies with strong human components of cause and effect, cause us to stop and ask "Why?"
"We may not have all of the answers, but we do have the security through a loving Father." That was the response of Milfred Mintrea and the members of the Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Irving, when an airliner crashed at DFW. Flight 191 crashed and killed 137 people on board.
As part of an ongoing ministry to firefighters, men at the church monitored radio scanners so that they would know whenever firemen went out on call. The calls they heard that night left no doubt that this was a big one.
The Meadowood crew was the first mass-care group to arrive at the crash site with food and refreshments for rescue workers. Within an hour, they were serving cool drinks and energy-boosting snacks to the paramedics, firefighters and law enforcement officers on the scene. Joined by volunteers from other Baptist churches they served more than 1,100 meals in 37 hours.
Along with the physical help, the church members were able to offer verbal assurances of God's love and grace to many of the working at the crash site.

Furniture Builders Project at Circle 6 Baptist Encampment

furniture1
Texas Baptist Mens Furniture Builders Ministry spent seven weeks this spring at the Circle 6 Baptist Encampment (near Midland, Texas) building furniture for the camp as well as the First Baptist Church of Midland. In the furniture building process they had to make many short boards from a few long boards while others were sanding shelves to make them read for assembling. furniture3

A MESSAGE FROM DICK TALLEY

A Round of Applause For Heavy Equipment!

This is just a note to recognize how the BobCats and Bucket Lifts have played such a great part in enhancing the effectiveness of our teams in the wild fire and tornado cleanup operations. They allowed our volunteers to do their jobs easier and safer. They were able to remove downed trees from rooftops that would have been dangerous to climb. It was only with the help of this equipment that heavy roots, concrete walls and damaging mudflow was able to be removed. The photos below were taken in Alabama, and clearly demonstrate the laborsaving part they played.

boy reading
On the first day we cared for 19 Children from 10 families with 12 workers on site thru out the 4-hour morning sessions. We found that we needed activities for the older children, and purchased needed supplies following the morning sessions. The space was very crowded due to the span of ages.
On Sunday., there were 30 children representing 17 families with 13 workers. We had as many as 16 children over the age of seven.
classroom
Many parents visited the room often during the mornings, and seemed to become very comfortable with us. All parents were very appreciative. The children seemed to have bonded by the second day and were exchanging addresses, e-mail, etc.
games
The Army provided snacks, drinks and assistance in the set up on Friday afternoon and break-down on Sunday. They also provided rooms for the three in the group who needed to stay over Saturday. night.

The children enjoyed a full day of crafts, games and The Three Trees, and the story of Joseph videos. TBMECC provided the snacks, and the children had lunch with their parents. The crafts included T-shirt painting, a picture frame with photo for each child, a Flat Brat and other crafts. The space was very small and active games were very difficult but we managed to include a couple active games along with Bingo and other assorted table games.

Disaster Relief Fall Retreat

East Texas Baptist Encampment, Newton, Texas

October 24th - 29th

We are excited to announce a week long fall retreat for Disaster Relief volunteers. Selected for its tall pines and serenity, the East Texas Baptist Encampment offers a perfect setting for a time set aside for reflection, renewal, rehearsal, fellowship, planning, recreation and instruction. We have noticed a longing of our volunteers to get together to do many things as a group that day to day normal experiences do not allow. To answer that longing we want to offer at this retreat:

· Morning and evening worship, singing and Bible teaching.
· Testimonies and reports of activities
· Speaker/teacher Ryan Dalgliesh
· Worship leader and special singing
· Disaster Relief Specialty Training
· Opportunities to practice some specialties
    1. Above ground chain saw*
    2. Clean out (pressure washing)
    3. Heavy equipment (skid steer, fork lift, man lifts)*
    4. Specialty feeding
    5. Saw mill (yes making lumber from logs!)
· Afternoon and evening times for brainstorming, fellowshipping and planning
· Opportunity for recreation (skeet, swimming, gun range, archery, etc)
· Opportunity to help improve this Baptist Encampment
· Opportunity to set up and use response units

*Some training such as heavy equipment and advanced chain saw has an additional cost of $25.00 and has space limitations as well.

There will be no fee for bringing a unit although you will be asked to register it for the camp before you bring it. We want to make sure there is sufficient space for you to park it and set up. TBM will not be paying for any costs associated with bringing units to the retreat so look for funding for travel expenses from your local support group.

CEDARS 2011
August 26 - 28

MT. LEBANON BAPTIST ENCAMPMENT
CEDAR HILL, TEXAS (DALLAS)

"RE-DIGGING OLD WELLS"

This year's Cedars will be reminiscent of the early Cedars at Mt. Lebanon in Dallas, Texas.  We are going back to a familiar place and will "Re-dig Some Old Wells" of former spiritual foundations, and encounters with God.

We have three main speakers who will guide us in our times together, and help us do some digging.

1. Robert Morgan - Pastor, speaker and author of 25 books, some of which are: "The Red Sea Rules", "The Promise", and "My All In All".
2. Phil Miglioratti - Former pastor, speaker, author and currently facilitator for "Church Prayer Leaders Network", facilitator for Mission America. Recommended by Claude King.
3. Lonnie Riley - Former pastor, speaker and author. He and John Franklin co-authored "By Faith" and "Miracle in the Mountains by Lonnie and Belinda Riley.  Lonnie's "Faith and Prayer" stories will truly bless you.

Help us tell others about Cedars...people and pastors you know. Our country, our churches, and our families need to "Re-dig Old Wells" that will spiritually refresh us.

We ask you to register as soon as possible. Cedars is done on a cost-recovery basis, therefore, we need to let you know that if you cancel or decide not to show up, you will still be responsible for the full amount of your registration.

The rates quoted on the registration form include your lodging (if staying on campus), meals, insurance and materials for the Cedars Conference.

Put this date on your calendar, commit it to prayer, and register now. Motel units on campus will be assigned on a first come basis. There are also some motels that are close by, and some are brand new.

We will begin with the noon meal on Friday, August 26 and conclude with the noon meal on Sunday, August 28.

Download a copy of the form (Cedars Encampment 2011) here, and mail it in with your payment to the address on the form.

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and

encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those who are afraid,

"Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies.

He is coming to save you."
