Do you want to be a "first responder" when TBM activates in response to a disaster?  Then you must GET CONNECTED - and STAY CONNECTED to a specific unit.
You may volunteer for multiple units, depending on your interests and qualifications.
Unless you are on the rolls of a unit director, you are not likely to be called into action unless or until replacement volunteers are needed.
The first responders are those who are already connected to and actively involved in one or more units.  To learn about units near you, contact your Area Director.

A Promise
From God

God cares about both our spiritual life and our physical life. He created our bodies and is pleased when we enjoy health and vigor.

O Lord, you alone can heal me; you alone and save. My praises are for you alone.

Jeremiah 17:14

I will give you back your health and heal your wounds, says the Lord.

Jeremiah 30:17

Looking Back
November 1987

A few weeks after the disaster in Saragosa, a tornado slashed through Central and East Texas leaving 10 dead, 150 injured and hundreds homeless. A number of communities near Tyler were affected.
Texas Baptist Men responded with feeding units, a food pantry and a clothing distribution center. Volunteers staffed the emergency center in four-hour shifts. Clean-up crews worked in the storm damaged neighborhoods. Over 2,100 meals were prepared in the first two days.
TBM was also asked to help repair and reconstruct 30 homes that were destroyed, 51 that sustained major damage, and 94 with minor damage in nearby Giddings.

A MESSAGE FROM DICK TALLEY

Food, a helping hand, and a positive message from God

As we go into this time of tornadoes, flooding and other disasters,  I was reminded that we sometimes get so involved within the process of getting the job done, that we forget who we are there for.

Think about the victims in new Orleans, Alabama, and Tennessee...the ones that have not eaten in five days. They have not had anyone to talk to about what has happened to them. The food, the drink of water and your conversation is what they will remember for years. What do you want them to remember?

Do you want them to remember a weak cup of coffee, or a bowl of chili that will take your head off. You get the picture. Or do you want them to remember the best cup of coffee they have ever had, a wonderful meal, a warm spirit, a concern for them, and someone that lifted them up.

If we do it right, they will want to know who we are and why we do what we do. And God will get the glory. Thank you for your willingness to serve.

Six Texas Baptist Men disaster relief teams have been deployed to serve in the wake of devastating tornadoes in Alabama. Five chainsaw teams and a shower unit are on the scene or soon will be en route to the affected area.

Tornado and Wind Damage in Forney and Terrell

The Director of missions for Kauf-Van association called on the unit to help a widow women who had just gotten out of the hospital. This was in Forney where there has been a tornado and high wind storm damage. Lots of trees were down and many broken limbs.

Five people went with this the unit's first call out.  Within the day the work was done for the widow lady (a relative of Bill Pinson) as well as some branches and a tree removed for the widow's neighbor.

Both people were very appreciative of the Texas Baptist Men's work.

Again on Tuesday, the 19th of April, the unit was activated for the day to help clean up storm damage in Terrell.  We had three requests for help and all three jobs were completed by the end of the day.  Again the people helped were very appreciative of the work of Texas Baptist Men.

THIN BLUE DIVIDER

Texas Baptist Men Helped Victims of Rock House Fire

From: Ed Jennings

Big Bend Baptist Association

The Staff of the Big Bend Baptist Association, and our churches, would like to thank you for your participation in ministering to the families in Ft. Davis, Texas who lost their homes and belongings in the Rock House Fire.

We also wish to thank you for meeting basic needs in the community when the utilities went down. Your cooperative effort was a positive testimony to the families of Ft. Davis, to all of the emergency workers, to the public officials, and to the business owners.

I have personally heard only positive feedback from representatives of all the above mentioned entities. Thank you for assisting the anchor church (FBC Ft. Davis) and supporting churches such as Davis Mt. Baptist Church in being the hands of Jesus with the heart of Jesus on this occasion.

We know that as time passes and followup continues, that God is using this event to draw people to Jesus. Let us always work together toward making sure that people see "our good works and Glorify our Father who is in Heaven."

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Consider it pure joy ... whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may mature and complete, not lacking anything."

James 1:2-4
