GUIDELINES FOR CHRISTIANS

Prayer - God answers Knee-Mail.

Church - You are not too bad to come in and you are not too good to stay out.

Insomnia Cure - If you can't sleep, try counting your blessings.

Nutrition - The best vitamin for a Christian is B1.

Cosmetic Surgery - Come in and have your faith lifted.

Tithing - Give God what's right -- not what's left.

Which Way? - Man's way leads to a hopeless end -- God's way leads to an endless hope.

Grading - God doesn't grade on the curve, He grades on the cross.

Flying - If God is your Copilot - you're in the wrong seat!

The Message - Our job isn't to change the message. Our job is to let the message change us.

Promises - God didn't promise a calm passage. He promised a safe landing.

Praying - When you pray, don't give God instructions. Just report for duty!

God's Will - The will of God will not take you to where the grace of God will not protect you.

Benefits - Working for God does not pay much, but His retirement plan is out of this world.

1.  SPECIALIZED NEED:  TBM needs EMTs, paramedics, retired firemen, and search and rescue personnel who have "first responder training".  If you are interested in being a first responder for TBM locally, nationally or internationally, contact Cookie at volunteers@tbmdr.net

2. Help us stay connected with Yellow Cap friends. Ask your buddies who have e-mail if they received this newsletter. If they did not, their e-mail address may be wrong in our database, or they may have inadvertently blocked messages from TBM Disaster Relief. Ask them to send a message to "volunteers@tbmdr.net" with their correct e-mail address.

3. Would you like to become more involved? There are great opportunities for volunteers of all skills. Contact your nearest Area Director listed above.

Trials Of Life

"Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad - because these trials will make you partners with Christ in his suffering, and afterward you will have the wonderful joy of sharing his glory when it is displayed for all the world.
Be happy if you are insulted for being a Christian, for then the glorious Spirit of God will come upon you."

1 Peter 4:12-14

Just as the Bible begins with the creation of the world, it ends with the creation of the new world. While the old world - our world - is filled with troubles too numerous to count, this will not be so in the next world. For everyone who suffers in body or in mind, this must be one of the most comforting promises in the Bible.

Buckets of Hope

water bucket assemblyThe "Buckets of Hope" project was featured on the television news early this month. It was a great public testimony of one of the ways Baptists all over the country were gathering food supplies to help the people of Haiti.

5000 More Water Filters

TBM-DR volunteers gathered again to prepare another 5000 Drip Water Filters for Haiti. These filters will provide clean water for a family of four for 4 to 6 months. A four man team went along to supervise assembly and distribution in Haiti.

Self-contained multi-filter systems (below), which supply up to 10,000 gallons of pure water a day, have also been deployed to provide higher capacity flows for critical needs.

Life In Haiti Update

Despite the hardships, the Haitian people are coping well. Church services spring up in the open air, and hymns and praises to God are often heard at almost any time of the day or night.

Living conditions continue to be uncertain. Many families sleep outdoors, and will only enter their damaged homes in the daylight.

MISSIONARY AVIATION FELLOWSHIP COMES TO THE RESCUE

It was in Anse Rouge, an outlying village in Haiti, where about 15 men were at work digging a "maka", or water hole. This was very important because it would serve the entire community. One problem remained...they were running out of food and might have to leave the area before it was completed. They decided to pray about the need.

About one o'clock, while everyone was resting, they heard the sound of an airplane. They looked out, and circling above was a big surprise. Once on the ground they helped unload many, many buckets for filtering water, and food! The plane returned two more times with more food and medical supplies.

As the men digging the maka gathered to get their buckets and food, one of the men said "God has sent a blessing." As they shared how God cared about the maka and about each of them personally, it opened the door to a greater understanding of our Christian faith. The food would enable the work to continue for several more weeks. The medical supplies were taken to the local clinic. The nurse there said, "Oh, I will be able to help so many people."

Voodoo Priest Accepts Jesus

Dr. Fred Sorrels from Burnet, Texas was in Haiti last month and reported this story to Mickey Lenamon.

Fred works in Haiti with the disabled and amputees. He was working at the Miami Field Hospital at the airport in Port-au-Prince when he saw the Texas Baptist Men's water filtration buckets. He asked if he could take some out to the local people and we gave him several to distribute.

As he was walking along, a man came up to him and asked if he could have a bucket. Fred said yes and also gave him a Gospel Tract which Evantell had given to TBM to distribute. They were printed in French Creole, the native language of Haiti. Fred began to witness to him and the MAN ACCEPTED JESUS right there.

The rest of the story is...this man Jean Odin who is in the picture, was a registered VOODOO Priest with the Haitian Government. After making a profession of faith, the man asked Fred to help him burn all of his voodoo paraphernalia. Fred said yes and they took everything to the edge of town and burned it. Jean said that he would now tell everyone about his new Savior...Jesus Christ.

LOOKING BACK 31 YEARS

July 1979

Deep in the heart of Texas, the sparkling church building stood as a spiritual beacon in the green countryside. The fact that it was standing at all, after nearly closing its doors in the 1970s, was something of a miracle. It continued to stand, thanks to the love of loyal members who joined hands with a group of retired Baptists to perform what one said was "more like a dream than reality". In the hot sun of July 1979, Olen and Morene Miles of Driftwood, near Austin, arrived with a dozen other retired couples to build the church facility. Less than five days later, the walls were up, the roof was on and the volunteers were putting on the shingles.
Beginning with those 13 enthusiastic couples, TBM Retiree Builders grew in its first 20 years to about 400 members and built nearly 500 sanctuaries and education buildings for churches that otherwise couldn't afford them.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - As a Class-A feeding unit and one of TBM's 1st responder units, their goal is to have a team of well trained volunteers ready to meet the call when and wherever it comes.  Their unit includes 3 goose-neck trailers.  They have a cooking capacity of 15,000 meals per day, but will grow to a 30,000 per day capacity as additional equipment is acquired.

Since last May they have prepared over 5,000 meals for community churches, schools and organizations.  They smoked 170 turkeys for a school last November.  Their most recent accomplishment was preparing a gourmet meal for a Habitat for Humanity meeting.  They received a standing ovation and an invitation to return next year.  They pride themselves in "cooking from scratch" according to unit director Arlen White.  Their goal is to have at least one cooking event each month to keep their skills sharp and to train new volunteers.

The unit meets in San Angelo the 3rd Thursday of each month to discuss upcoming events and share cooking tips.  A combined yellow cap on-the-job-training session and a food service preparation class is planned for April or May.

If you would like to become a part of this active cooking unit, contact Arlen White.  MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to staff the unit and to keep it cooking. CLICK HERE.
The Joy of Clean Water
girl in blue dressAfter church on Sunday five water filters were set up in this orphanage. Tim Liford (left) also added some flavored protein powder, brought along by Phil Davenport, which was liked by everyone. These filters meant that the people could filter the less expensive bathing water and not have to ration the amount they drank each day. Buckets were also provided to hospitals to send home with patients, as many returned with the same problems as their initial visit. Church pastors and many other orphanages also received these life-saving water filters.

Mike Brittain, Team Leader, reported that everything went smoothly due to the help of James Cundiff as Logistics Coordinator. A special thanks to Matt Patterson too for his expertise with the filter systems.
