Support AAAN!

 Dear AAAN Friends and Supporters,

This year has seen exciting new developments at our organization. We again provided social and immigration services to hundreds of Arab families, and academic, social and cultural development programming for Arab, Black and Latino youth. Our Arab Women's Committee completed its second oral history project in as many years and we piloted a Family Literacy Project in partnership with southwest suburban libraries. We also worked closely with the Chicago Cultural Alliance to expand our cultural outreach work and raise awareness of issues important to the Arab American community.

As we continue to defend the civil and human rights of Arabs across Chicagoland, struggle against racial and national profiling, push for immigration reform and full equality and Serve the People, we ask that you support our goals of meeting our community's needs and building on its strengths.

Please visit our website where you can make a credit card donation, through Network for Good, of $50, $125, $250 or more. Or you can send a check to AAAN, 3148 West 63rd Street, Chicago, IL 60629. Make your tax-deductible donations before year-end!

Our community needs you now more than ever! Best wishes for the holidays and thank you for your support!

After School Program working with local school

More than 35 kids are spread out across the cafeteria at Stevenson Elementary School on 79th Street and Kostner Avenue in Chicago. But instead of eating lunch, they are doing their homework with help from staff members of the Arab American Action Network. After School Program

Jocelyn, Giselle, Brandon and Andrea, all second graders, are working on subtraction homework.

"I like staying and doing homework after school because they help us," Jocelyn says. "We also color and play."

The AAAN After School Program at Stevenson started in October and serves 40 students Mondays through Thursdays.

"Collaborating with a specific school provides an advantage because we are able to consistently bring in more students from the community since they are in a school setting," says Halima Bahri, Youth Services Program Coordinator at the AAAN. "We are able to work with school staff and more directly connect with the parents."

Stevenson was chosen as the school to work with because of its large Arab student population.

The AAAN is looking for committed volunteers that would like to give back to the community as well as guests that can give the youth presentations on various topics. The program runs Mondays through Thursdays 2:45-4:30pm. Contact Halima Bahri if you want to help out!
