Winchester Greens Inspires Australian Chief Minister |
The lack of quality affordable housing for low-income families is not a problem unique to Richmond, Virginia - it is an unfortunate reality around the world. A recent news story by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation revealed that, in the capital city of Canberra, the cost of living in a retirement community is far too high for many seniors. However, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope feels confident after his tour of Winchester Greens that elderly Canberrans can receive the care they need while living within their means.
Winchester Greens, a BHC mixed-income, mixed-use community, has won multiple awards for its innovative and charming design. "The model I saw...certainly sparked for me the possibility of us thinking more laterally about how to provide affordable accommodation for older Canberrans in a supported and supportive environment," says Stanhope.
Wherever we go, we stay. BHC's staffed support services, which range from youth recreational and educational programs to health initiatives for seniors, make our communities both desirable and sustainable. |
