| Revitalization |
|
BHC's commitment to revitalization goes beyond just buildings. It includes changing lives, transforming communities, and even extends to...ourselves! To prepare for our 20th anniversary, we have been sprucing up a bit. You may have seen our new brochures, stationary - even this enewsletter is part of our refreshing process. We'd like to share with you the most recent developments.
First, our headquarters is much easier to find! Our window front clearly identifies our presence at 23 W. Broad Street. Stop by and check it out.
Second, we've made it much easier for you to DONATE ONLINE. Have your credit card handy, go to www.betterhousingcoalition.org, and click on Donations. You can set up an account to use again when making future donations, or make a one time donation (you don't need to have a PayPay account). State income tax credits are available until June 30th for individual donations of $500 or more and corporate donations of $1000 or more. For more information contact lynn.mcateer@betterhousingcoalition.org or call 804-644-0546, ext. 18. |

Take A Trip Down Memory Lane
Do you remember in...
...January 1988 the Soviet Union began its program of economic restructuring known as Perestroika and the Washington Redskins beat the Denver Broncos in the SuperBowl.
...February 1988 the Winter Olympics were held in Calgary.
...March 1988 Oliver North and John Poindexter were indicted on charges of conspiracy in the Iran-Contra Affair
...April 1988 Mary Tyler McClenahan and Carter McDowell formed Richmond Better Housing Coalition to address the need for affordable housing in the region.
...May 1988 Winning Colors won the Kentucky Derby
Which of the above is still going strong after 20 years? |

BHC Participates in Greater Richmond Challenge III |
The Greater Richmond Chamber recently held the third annual Challenge, which brings together businesses, governments, community leaders and residents to explore the region's successes and obstacles for community, quality of life and economic development.TK Somanath, BHC's president and CEO, served as a team leader for the Workforce Housing groups, along with Laura Lafayette (Partnership for Workforce Housing). As part of their research these groups toured Winchester Greens, BHC's award winning mixed-use, mixed-income community in Chesterfield County, as an example of a successful community revitalization. Tom Jacobson, Director of Revitalization in Chesterfield County and BHC committee member, provided the groups with background and statistical information.
BHC is proud to be a part of this innovative opportunity to improve the quality of life in Greater Richmond!
